Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center (VBPC) is a 100-bed freestanding psychiatric hospital located near the beautiful resort area of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a short 10-minute drive to the ocean front. VBPC offers acute psychiatric and substance abuse services for adults 18 years and older. The hospital is accessible 24 hours a day for admissions, and includes mental health assessments and an excellent referral network. Treatment programs and specialty services at VBPC include substance abuse, dual diagnosis and partial hospitalization.

 

Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center currently has an opening for PRN Social Worker.  Candidates must be available to work occassionally on weekends and holidays. 

The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:

  • Provides social work and case management services for the patients
  • Facilitating therapeutic process and psychoeducational groups (required)
  • Completes biopsychosocial, spiritual assessments, discharge/aftercare planning and liaisons with community resources.
  • Provides case management to assigned patients and provides group, family and individual counseling sessions as prescribed
  • Provides supervision to interns
  • Responsible for documentation of individual, family and group counseling sessions with final endorsement authorization
  • Plan, coordinate, manage and implement support packages to help clients deal with difficulties and overcome dependencies
  • Interview service users and assess their current condition, needs, strengths and weaknesses
  • Address each case as a unit and set tailored measurable goals
  • Monitor and evaluate clients’ progress and modify treatment plans accordingly
  • Offer information and counseling on the best course of action during sessions
  • Maintain accurate records and report on clients’ status
  • Act as a key-worker and cooperate with multidisciplinary teams

Qualifications

  • MS degree in social work, psychology or sociology.
  • Serves as an active member of the Clinical Services/Social Work department.
  • Experience facilitating therapeutic process and psychoeducational groups 
  • Maintains a therapeutic relationship with patients.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe, clean therapeutic environment.
  • Two or more years prefered in a Social Work environment.
  • Able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Working knowledge of social theories and practices.
  • Social perceptiveness and empathy.
  • Ability to build and maintain professional helping relationships.
  • Ability to relate and communicate with diverse population and groups.
  • Resilience along with ability to assess situations.
