Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center (VBPC) is a 100-bed freestanding psychiatric hospital located near the beautiful resort area of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a short 10-minute drive to the oceanfront. VBPC offers acute psychiatric and substance abuse services for adults 18 years and older. The hospital is accessible 24 hours a day for admissions and includes mental health assessments and an excellent referral network. Treatment programs and specialty services at VBPC include substance abuse, dual diagnosis and partial hospitalization.

Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center currently has an opening for PRN Group Therapist.  Candidates must be available to work occassionally on weekends and holidays.

The candidate selected will be responsible for the following: Provides therapeutic process and psychoeducational groups to patients in an inpatient setting. Responsible for documentation of group therapy with final endorsement authorization. 

 

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of clinical interventions based on oral and written daily progress of the patient. 
  • Participate in team and committee meetings, as assigned 
  • Monitors federal, state and local laws and corporate HIPAA information and notifies management of applicable information and changes. 
  • Reports HIPAA related problems, issues or concerns, when deemed appropriate or necessary. 
  • Works with staff and committees to ensure the organization maintains appropriate privacy and confidentiality consent, authorization forms and current practices and requirements 
  • Ensures HIPAA training is provided to new interns. 
  • Provides group therapy for identified units evidenced by completed progress notes. 
  • Attends social work meetings monthly 100% evidenced by log in sheet

Qualifications

  • MS degree in social work, psychology or sociology.
  • Serves as an active member of the Clinical Services/Social Work department.
  • Experience facilitating therapeutic process and psychoeducational groups 
  • Maintains a therapeutic relationship with patients.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe, clean therapeutic environment.
  • Two or more years prefered in a Social Work environment.
  • Requires valid Virginia Driver’s License.
  • Able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Working knowledge of social theories and practices.
  • Social perceptiveness and empathy.
  • Ability to build and maintain professional helping relationships.
  • Ability to relate and communicate with diverse population and groups.
  • Resilience along with ability to assess situations.
