Job Summary:

An IDD (Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities) Day Program Manager oversees day programs and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The role involves ensuring that participants receive appropriate care, support, and enrichment in a safe, structured environment. The IDD Day Program Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of a day program designed to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This position involves developing and implementing programs that promote the well-being, independence, and integration of participants into the community while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Development & Management:
  • Develop, implement, and assess individualized programs that support the physical, emotional, and social development of participants.
  • Create, coordinate, & implement schedules and activities for individuals and staff and modify them as needed.
  • Create and implement staff assignments
  • Ensure programs are designed to meet the unique needs and preferences of individuals with IDD.
  • Modify and adapt programming as needed based on participants' progress and needs.
  • Supervision & Staff Management:
  • Train and supervise a team of direct support professionals and other staff members.
  • Ensure that staff are appropriately trained in areas like behavior management, safety protocols, and support strategies for individuals with IDD.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and facilitate staff development.
  • Participant Care & Support:
  • Provide leadership and direction for creating a safe and nurturing environment for all participants.
  • Ensure that participants are supported with their daily activities, personal care, communication, and community engagement.
  • Monitor the health, safety, and well-being of participants, ensuring timely interventions as necessary.
  • Compliance & Documentation:
  • Ensure all programs comply with state and federal regulations, licensing standards, and funding requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of participant progress, behavior plans, and program outcomes.
  • Prepare and submit required reports, incident reports, and other documentation in a timely manner.
  • Community Engagement & Partnerships:
  • Foster community partnerships and collaborations to enhance program offerings and participant integration into the community.
  • Advocate for the needs of individuals with IDD in community settings, promoting inclusion and opportunities.
  • Budget & Resource Management:
  • Develop and manage the individuals’ budget, ensuring efficient management of participants personal spending during the day program, community outings, and activities.
  • Oversee the procurement of food, supplies, and equipment required for program activities.
  • Emergency Response & Crisis Management:
  • Be prepared to respond to emergencies and crises, ensuring the safety of both participants and staff.
  • Follow established protocols in handling behavioral challenges, medical emergencies, and other situations as they arise.
  • Family & Caregiver Communication:
  • Regularly communicate with family members and caregivers regarding participants’ progress and needs.
  • Act as a liaison between families, staff, and service providers during day program hours.
Qualifications:

  • Education:
Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, Special Education, or related field (or equivalent experience) is preferred.

  • Experience:
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in managing programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Proven experience in supervisory roles, preferably in an IDD or similar care setting.
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized programs and behavioral plans.
  • Knowledge of IDD care practices, safety protocols, and relevant legislation.
  • Problem-solving and crisis management skills.
  • Budgeting and resource management experience.
  • Certifications:
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, and Crisis Prevention (e.g., CPI, NCI) is preferred.
  • Other relevant certifications specific to IDD care.
Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing needs.
  • Physical demands may include lifting, assisting participants with mobility, and standing for extended periods.
