This Role Matters:
This job changes lives. At Wolverine Human Services, the Foster Care Director provides the leadership that helps children and families move toward safety, stability, and permanency. You will guide foster care and licensing operations, support supervisors and staff, and ensure services meet agency, court, contractual, and Michigan licensing requirements. This role combines program leadership, sound judgment, accountability, and collaboration with families and community partners.
This Role Includes:
• Leading the day-to-day operations of the foster care program
• Establishing program goals, expectations, and performance standards
• Supervising foster care supervisors, licensing supervisors, and other assigned staff
• Monitoring child safety, placement stability, case progress, and barriers to permanency
• Ensuring timely, accurate case documentation, court reports, and required records
• Maintaining compliance with licensing, contractual, court, accreditation, and agency requirements
• Overseeing foster parent recruitment, training, licensing, support, and retention
• Using program data to identify trends, strengthen performance, and guide corrective action
• Collaborating with DHHS, courts, attorneys, GALs/CASA, schools, providers, families, and community partners
• Supporting budget development, staffing decisions, and responsible allocation of program resources
Qualifications: What You Need to Apply – Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Social Work, Psychology, or another Human Behavioral Science field; master’s degree preferred
• At least three years of supervisory experience in foster care, adoption, or licensing
• Experience that meets Michigan licensing and contractual requirements for the position
• Extensive working knowledge of Michigan’s child welfare system
• Ability to train, supervise, coach, and consult with staff, agency committees, and partner organizations
• Strong leadership, decision-making, written communication, verbal communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and sound ethical standards
• Valid Michigan Driver’s License and Chauffeur’s License, or ability to obtain a Chauffeur’s License

• Supervisors and staff understand expectations and are accountable for performance
• Case records, court reports, and required documentation are accurate and timely
• Licensing reviews, audits, and corrective action plans are managed effectively

• Program data is used to improve service delivery and address performance concerns
• Agency policies, confidentiality requirements, and mandated reporting responsibilities are upheld
• Wolverine Human Services is represented professionally in hearings, meetings, and community settings

• Reports to the Executive Director of Community Based Programs
• Directly supervises Foster Care Supervisors, Licensing Supervisors, and other assigned staff
