The Director of Housing and Residence Life is a leadership position employed by the Monroe Community College Association, Inc. and reports directly to the Executive Director of the MCC Association. The Director provides leadership for the administration and operation of Housing and Residence Life, including housing operations, residential education, student support, occupancy management, facilities coordination, compliance, assessment, and staff supervision. Working collaboratively with Monroe Community College departments, MCC Association leadership, community partners, and external service providers, the Director supports student success, operational effectiveness, and the long-term sustainability of the housing program for MCC, an access-oriented institution.
Leadership and Strategic Planning
Provide leadership and direction for Housing and Residence Life; collaborate with Monroe Community College administrators, faculty and staff; support enrollment, retention and student success initiatives; evaluate occupancy trends and operational performance; represent Housing and Residence Life on committees and collaborative initiatives.
Housing Operations and Administration
Oversee housing assignments, occupancy management, room changes, housing-related communications, summer housing operations, records management, contracts, licenses, and operational procedures.
Student Development and Residential Education
Promote student engagement, academic success, leadership development, wellness, inclusion, and belonging. Collaborate with College departments to deliver educational and co-curricular programming that supports student success.
Crisis Management, Student Support and Conduct
Provide leadership during emergencies, critical incidents, and student crises. Collaborate with Campus Safety, Counseling, Student Affairs and other departments to support student wellbeing and appropriate intervention.
Facilities Management, Capital Planning and Asset Stewardship
Collaborate with Monroe Community College Facilities Services, Campus Safety, Information Technology, Student Affairs and other College departments, as well as MCC Association personnel, contractors and vendors, to maintain safe, secure and well-maintained residential facilities. Develop strong working relationships with College and Association stakeholders. Collaborate with Monroe Community College and MCC Association leadership in the identification, prioritization, planning and implementation of maintenance, renovation, deferred maintenance and capital improvement projects. Participate in long-range capital planning efforts with Monroe Community College departments, MCC Association leadership, and external partners. Coordinate inspections, preventive maintenance, safety reviews, and operational assessments. Support campus master planning, strategic enrollment initiatives, and future housing-related planning efforts.
Fiscal Management, Financial Planning and Operational Sustainability
Collaborate with the MCC Association Director of Finance in the development, administration, and monitoring of annual operating and capital budgets. Participate in occupancy forecasts, revenue projections, financial analyses, and budget recommendations. Monitor housing occupancy, operating expenses, and program performance. Work collaboratively with the MCC Association Director of Finance, Executive Director, and MCC Association Board of Directors to support the long-term financial health of the housing program. Assist in development of housing rate recommendations, occupancy goals and revenue projections. Ensure compliance with Association financial policies, audit requirements and internal controls.
Personnel Management
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, mentor and evaluate professional staff, support staff and student employees. Encourage professional development and maintain a collaborative team environment.
Compliance and Risk Management
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local, SUNY, College and Association policies, regulations and procedures. Implement risk management practices that support student safety and organizational accountability
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Education, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Work, or a closely related field and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in housing, residence life, student affairs or a related area.
Preferred Qualifications
Community college or SUNY experience; residence hall leadership experience; occupancy management; facilities oversight; assessment experience; capital planning experience; and knowledge of current trends in housing and residence life administration.
