Position: Director of Emergency and Crisis Services
Employment Status: Full-Time
Location: Farmville, Virginia
General Description:
The Director of Emergency and Crisis Services is responsible for the overall coordination, operation, and delivery of mental health and substance use crisis services to individuals throughout Planning District 14.
This position provides leadership, clinical oversight, and supervision to Emergency Services staff and is responsible for ensuring crisis services are delivered in a timely, effective, and person-centered manner. The Director also supports program operations, staff development, regulatory compliance, and coordination with community partners involved in behavioral health crisis response.
The Director of Emergency and Crisis Services is directly accountable to the Executive Director of the agency. This position is designated as Level Two under the HIPAA Privacy Rule and is exempt under FLSA.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate-level degree in psychiatric social work, psychology, counseling, or a directly related field.
- At least three years of experience in a mental health setting, including emergency or crisis services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least one year of clinical supervisory experience with master's-level or higher clinical staff is preferred.
- Must be licensed in Virginia as a Clinical Psychologist, LCSW, or LPC, or be license-eligible and able to obtain licensure within a timeframe established by the employer.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Plan, develop, coordinate, and oversee mental health and substance use emergency services.
- Coordinate staffing schedules, including after-hours, weekend, holiday, and on-call coverage.
- Provide direct crisis intervention, diagnostic evaluations, follow-up services, and backup clinical supervision as needed.
- Ensure clinical documentation and case records are completed accurately and in accordance with agency policies and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor staff documentation and record-keeping practices.
- Review and oversee monthly program statistics and reporting requirements.
- Develop and provide in-service training and community education related to Emergency Services.
- Build and maintain relationships with community agencies, hospitals, law enforcement, courts, and other service partners.
- Represent Crossroads CSB at local, regional, and state meetings related to Emergency and Crisis Services.
- Collaborate with agency leadership regarding behavioral health programs and service delivery.
- Provide clinical supervision and consultation to Emergency Services clinical staff.
- Complete employee performance evaluations and support staff development.
- Assist with recruitment, hiring, performance management, disciplinary actions, and other personnel-related responsibilities.
- Implement changes in Virginia mental health laws and ensure Emergency Services practices remain compliant.
- Monitor program activities and complete required reporting related to the Performance Contract and other accountability measures.
- Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the responsibilities of the position.
