CAPIS (Crisis Assessment, Prevention Intervention Service) Consultant

Description

Objective: 

Provide individualized assessment of behavioral, developmental, and skill building support and interventions to children, adolescents, and/or adults with OPWDD (Office for People with Development Disabilities) eligibility. Services and assessments/interventions are provided to individuals and families in the home or within the community. 

Perform duties while actively promoting an environment consistent with MHA’s Cultural Equity Policy and WELCOME Orange.

Requirements

Qualifications  

· Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social work, Counseling, Human Services, Special Education, Applied Behavioral Analysis, Behavioral Sciences or related field required. 

OR 

Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social work, Counseling, Human Services, Special Education, Applied Behavioral Analysis, Behavioral Sciences or related field, preferred.

· Candidates with Licenses in Social work or Mental health counseling and/or Certifications in Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), and Special Education are strongly preferred.

· Demonstrated experience working with children or families with intellectual/developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, behavioral challenges, or other developmental needs. 

· Demonstrated experience in providing behavioral assessment and supports such as: reinforcement strategies, emotional regulation, skill development, and behavior prevention and intervention techniques.

· Ability recognize behavioral triggers, implement individualized strategies, and respond appropriately to challenging or unsafe behaviors. 

· Effective planning, organization, documentation, and time management skills.  

· Ability to exercise sound judgement under crisis situations and to abide by regulations of confidentiality.

· Knowledge and experience with facilitating support groups preferred. 

· Excellent oral and written communication skills.

· Ability to work collaboratively with children, families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary service providers. 

Responsibilities 

· Provide direct crisis assessment and intervention services, as assigned by CAPIS Program, which may include providing individualized services to children, adults, and families in their homes and community settings based upon identified needs, goals, and service plans. 

· Support the development of emotional regulation and coping skills, including helping individuals recognize emotions, tolerate frustration, manage transitions, and utilize appropriate calming strategies.

· Utilize positive reinforcement, modeling prompting, redirection, and other evidence informed behavioral strategies to encourage adaptive behaviors and skill development. 

· Assist individuals in developing daily living and independence skills, including following routines, completing age-appropriate tasks, taking turns, waiting, respecting boundaries, engaging appropriately with others, and participating successfully in community activities. 

· Support development of functional communication skills, which may include verbal communication, visual supports, basic sign language, or other communication strategies appropriate to the individual and their needs. 

· Implement proactive strategies to address behaviors that may present safety concerns including elopement/wandering, self injurious behaviors, aggression, impulsivity, or other challenging behaviors, consistent with individuals approved plan and agency policy.

· Identify antecedents, triggers, environmental factors, and patterns that may contribute to challenging behaviors and assist families in implementing preventative and supportive strategies. 

· Model behavioral and skill building strategies for parents/caregivers and provide education and support to promote consistency across environments.

· Collaborate with Families, caregivers, and other providers, as appropriate.

· Maintain timely and accurate documentation of services and interventions and completing consultant reports within established deadlines. 

· Facilitate support groups for families and the general community, as needed. 

· Maintain a flexible schedule that may include daytime, evenings, and weekend hours based upon individual and family needs. 

Terms of employment/benefits:

· Per diem position

Compensation rate: 

Crisis Assessment and Intervention, Education/Training Presentations and Support Group Facilitation: $100/hour

Documentation and Report Preparation: $50/hour
