Assistant Director, Academic- School of Work

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Assistant Director, Academic- School of Work at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

Coordinate, plan, implement and maintain sound operational and organization plans to support the objectives of Practicum Education and formulate policies, procedures and processes ensuring that they are consonant with the mission and goals of the School and the accreditation standards of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

Develop, plan, implement, maintain and improve, where needed, the practicum education curriculum for each level of undergraduate and graduate students and maintain and upgrade the Practicum Education Manual.

Take leadership, consulting with Curriculum Coordinators and Concentration Chairs, for development and oversight of implementation of criteria for the selection of practicum education sites that are consonant with University and School policy and CSWE accreditation standards.

Seek opportunities for innovation in the organization and structure of practicum education curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels and for practicum education placement processes, including opportunities for funding that supports innovation in practicum education.

Responsible for coordination of practicum placement of all BSW students and MSW students as needed.

Supervise clerical and academic staff associated with the School's practicum education program, including maintaining responsibility for orientation of new personnel and ensuring that appropriate student records are maintained.

Develop, plan and implement programs of Continuing Education courses and training for agency-based practicum instructors.

Supervise and provide consultation to Faculty Practicum Liaisons and Placement Assistants for practicum-related issues.

Prepare detailed periodic reports on the School's practicum education program as requested by the Dean and/or the Associate/Assistant Dean.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Doctorate degree preferred.

Must be a licensed master social worker (LMSW), State of Michigan Licensing & Regulatory Affairs.

Experience with School of Social Work curriculum.

Experience as a Faculty Practicum Liaison and/or Practicum Instructor.

Ability to work collaboratively with others throughout the University and agencies. Ability to work professionally with a variety of people at different job levels.

Business Skills- Ability to work independently. Ability to handle multiple demands on one's time in situations that are sometimes stressful. Understands objectives and looks for ways to improve processes and quality. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner.

Managing Skills- Ability to delegate work, set clear direction and manage workflow. Ability to train staff and develop subordinate skills. Provides regular performance feedback.

Technical Skills- Proficiency in the use of Banner, STARS, ALeRT, ODS/Cognos and Microsoft Office Suite.
