Description

The Wellness Outreach Coordinator provides frontline leadership for the African American Male Wellness Agency's grassroots outreach and community engagement strategy across Columbus and Franklin County. This role is central to AAMWA's ability to mobilize thousands of attendees, build trust in neighborhoods, and connect African American men and their families to health, wellness, behavioral health, and social support resources. The ideal candidate will bring strong community credibility, exceptional follow-through, and a boots-on-the-ground approach to outreach that reflects AAMWA's commitment to going where others will not go - including barbershops, beauty shops, churches, neighborhood blocks, community events, and trusted local gathering spaces.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grassroots Outreach Strategy & Execution: Lead and coordinate robust outreach efforts in barbershops, beauty shops, churches, community centers, neighborhoods, local businesses, and door-to-door canvassing efforts throughout Columbus and Franklin County.
  • Community Engagement & Activation: Serve as a visible AAMWA ambassador in the community, increasing participation in Real Men Real Talk, Black Men's Wellness Day, Uplift Her, and other wellness-centered Agency initiatives.
  • Outreach Planning & Coordination: Develop weekly outreach plans, coordinate street team activity, organize material distribution, identify high-impact neighborhoods, and ensure outreach efforts are aligned with grant timelines and event goals.
  • Resource Education & Navigation: Educate community members on available behavioral health, housing, financial wellness, preventive health, and supportive services, ensuring individuals understand how to access resources.
  • Referral Pathways & Follow-Up: Support clear referral pathways to APDS and other support services, assist with participant follow-up, and help strengthen continuity of care for individuals seeking additional support.
  • Event Attendance Growth: Drive community turnout for key AAMWA events and activations through targeted canvassing, partner mobilization, neighborhood outreach, and trusted messenger engagement.
  • Partner & Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with faith leaders, barbershop and salon owners, grassroots leaders, neighborhood associations, community organizations, local businesses, and public-facing partners.
  • Marketing & Material Distribution: Coordinate the distribution of print and digital outreach materials, support visibility campaigns, and ensure messaging is culturally relevant, accurate, and aligned with AAMWA brand standards.
  • Data, Reporting & Grant Compliance: Track outreach locations, contacts made, materials distributed, referrals generated, partner engagement, attendance growth, and community feedback to support monthly, quarterly, mid-year, and final grant reporting.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with program leadership, communications, event teams, APDS partners, and internal stakeholders to ensure outreach activity strengthens program delivery and measurable impact.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred in Public Health, Social Work, Community Development, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field; equivalent community outreach experience will be considered.
  • Experience: 2-4 years of experience in community outreach, grassroots organizing, public health engagement, nonprofit programming, social services, or community relations.
  • Skills: Strong relationship-building, communication, organization, documentation, and follow-up skills; demonstrated ability to build trust in African American communities and underserved neighborhoods.
  • Technology: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CRM systems, outreach trackers, reporting tools, and basic data entry platforms; Quickbase experience preferred.
  • Schedule/Travel: Ability and willingness to travel locally throughout Columbus and Franklin County and work evenings or weekends as needed for outreach, community events, and signature Agency activations.

Key Competencies:

  • Community-Centered Leadership: Ability to engage residents, partners, and community leaders with respect, cultural awareness, and trust.
  • Relationship-Building: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and sustain meaningful partnerships across grassroots, faith, business, and community sectors.
  • Operational Execution: Ability to translate outreach strategy into daily action, measurable outcomes, consistent documentation, and timely follow-up.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly represent AAMWA in community-facing settings.
  • Results-Oriented: Focused on increasing engagement, referrals, service connections, event attendance, and community impact.
  • Mission Alignment: Deep commitment to AAMWA's mission to improve health outcomes for African American men and their families.
