BASIC FUNCTION: The UBMS Counselor fosters a learning environment that encompasses academic achievement and college preparation that centers around STEM related fields. The Counselor promotes the vision and skill level for successful graduation at the secondary level and success with college matriculation and post-secondary completion.

SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY: None

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Reporting to the Program Coordinator and/or Program Director, the part time Counselor is responsible for facilitating counseling seminars and individual sessions for students grades 9-12. Counseling seminar is designed to enhance the academic, personal, and social development of students. Its primary goal is to promote knowledge and understanding of college terminology and college options, to navigate the college admissions process, assist in the formulation of career interests in STEM and provide financial aid and scholarship resources. The Counselor seeks to foster an environment that not only offers a productive learning experience for students, but a forum of support and personal growth as students make the transition to the next year of high school or transition from high school to college.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Effectively facilitate group counseling sessions for high school students Provide individual counseling sessions for high school students

Complete case documentation for group and individual counseling sessions

Ability to administer assessments (career inventories, personality and needs assessments)

Develop counseling curriculums that are inclusive of college admissions, financial aid, career development and personal/social development

Experience with using PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft word

Ability to manage student groups in a classroom setting

Foster an environment that enhances productive learning experiences and promotes personal growth and support

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling or other related field Experience working with youth (middle/high school students). Familiar with classroom management.

Preferred Requirements

Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, School Psychology, or related field. Knowledge of student development. Experience managing classroom management. Two years or more of experience working with youth.

Compliance Salary Range Disclosure

$30.00-$40 per hour
