The Volunteer & Community Engagement Manager manages JSL's volunteer program and community engagement efforts across its campuses. The position is responsible for recruiting, screening, engaging, and retaining volunteers; managing JSL boutique operations; and coordinating volunteer-supported programs, community events, and fundraising activities. Working closely with Development, Life Enrichment, campus leadership, and community partners, the manager builds meaningful relationships and creates opportunities that enhance the resident experience, strengthen community involvement, and support JSL's mission and fundraising efforts.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Leads JSL's volunteer program across its campuses, including recruitment, interviews, screening, background checks, placement, engagement, recognition, and retention.
Partners with Life Enrichment and other departments to identify volunteer needs, match volunteers with appropriate opportunities, and develop meaningful programs that support residents and JSL activities.
Maintains volunteer records and communications and develops outreach strategies to attract new volunteers and sustain engagement.
Manages JSL's onsite boutiques, including purchasing, merchandising, inventory, product selection, promotions, and activities designed to support engagement and fundraising.
Leads and supports assigned volunteer and community committees, including the Oldest Americans Celebration and FRIENDS of JSL, and coordinates related programs and special events.
Partners with the Development team to support fundraising, donor cultivation and stewardship activities, including donor and prospect communications, invitations, outreach, event registration, and guest engagement.
Builds and maintains relationships with volunteers, donors, prospective donors, residents, families, community partners, and other JSL supporters to strengthen engagement and advance JSL's mission.
Partners with JSL's communications and public relations resources to identify and gather resident, volunteer, program, and community stories and information for organizational communications.
Coordinates volunteer recognition activities, including JSL's annual Volunteer Appreciation Event.
Represents JSL at volunteer, community, and fundraising events and activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Proven experience in volunteer management, community engagement, or social work with a strong track record of leading successful programs.
Excellent written communication skills for crafting compelling outreach materials, reports, and correspondence.
Demonstrated ability to work with culturally diverse communities and foster inclusive environments.
Proficiency in Salesforce, Raiser's Edge or similar database management tools; experience with Microsoft Office Suite is essential.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
Supervising experience with team leadership capabilities to motivate staff and volunteers alike.
Public speaking skills for engaging audiences during community events or recruitment drives.
Experience in social media management for outreach purposes; bilingual abilities are a plus for engaging diverse populations.
Knowledge of volunteer recruitment strategies including campus recruitment initiatives and social media campaigns.
Project management expertise coupled with customer service orientation to ensure positive volunteer experiences from onboarding through ongoing engagement.
