EAC Network, a leading not-for-profit social service agency dedicated to helping over 79,000 people through 100 impactful programs across Long Island and NYC, is looking for a dedicated part time Vocational Specialist to join the Home Based Intensive/ Community Program.

 

Salary:  $25/hour

Schedule: up to 18 hours per week; flexible afternoons and evenings

Location: 320 Carleton Ave. in Central Islip NY

 

What drives the core purpose of this job: 

The Vocational Specialist is responsible for providing counseling, vocational assistance and employment services to youth referred by Department of Probation in Suffolk County with the outcome of economic self-sufficiency as the objective of the counseling process.

 

 

What are the key Responsibilities:


Assist clients in identifying and developing plans related to education needs and career goals 
Network with area employers to identify with potential employment resources.
Conduct follow-up counseling sessions to review progress towards established goals.
Coordinate program services including vocational assessments, collaborate with case management, and conduct training and work assignments.
Administer, score and interpret aptitude, interest and work sample tests when appropriate.
Function as agency liaison with vocational agencies such as ACCESS/VR, DOL and One-Stop Employment Centers.
Maintain client record information including services provided, referrals and progress/lack of progress.
Consult with family, school and community agencies regarding client's progress.
Utilize the educational training, skills and experience obtained to provide appropriate professional services, techniques and strategies for clients.
Explore and develop employment opportunities and community resources for referral purposes.
Prepare required forms and keep statistics on client contacts, referrals, and job activities.
Transport and escort clients to and from appointments, camp/enrichment activities and/ or to obtain emergency resources in own vehicle when needed.    


 

What key knowledge, skills, and abilities are required to excel in this role:


Must have a minimum of a Bachelors degree in counseling, psychology, sociology, or approved related human services field. 
Minimum of one year of career counseling experience with individuals with a history of mental health and alcohol/substance abuse problems required.
Must be proficient in computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, Microsoft Office applications, calendar, and email and/or database software necessary to perform work assignments. 
Must have access to car and possess a valid New York State Driver's License.
