MAIN FUNCTION


The Virtual Navigator provides proactive, individualized, and coordinated support to students enrolled in (Albizu University's online Bachelor of Science in Psychology program through the AITLS Distance Education Success Center. The Virtual Navigator serves as a primary point of connection between online students and the University's academic, financial, technology, career, and student-support resources. Using a high-touch student navigation model supported by institutional data and AI-enabled tools, the Navigator proactively identifies student needs, conducts outreach, facilitates referrals, follows cases through resolution, and helps students overcome barriers that may interfere with persistence and degree completion.

 

REQUIREMENTS:


  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in psychology, counseling, education, social work, student affairs, higher education, human services, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in providing student services, advice, case management, navigation, customer service, or related direct-support services.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students in an online or technology-supported environment.
  • Experience using Canvas, supporting online college students, adult learners, or students experiencing academic, financial, or technological barriers is preferred.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provide individualized virtual navigation and one-stop support to students enrolled in the online BS in Psychology program.
  • Provide coaching and individualized support to faculty and students on the effective use of Canvas as the institution’s learning management system. 
  • Conduct proactive outreach to students based on identified needs, institutional data, early alerts, student inquiries, and other indicators of potential barriers to academic progress.
  • Assess student needs and connect students with appropriate academic, administrative, financial, technological, career, and student-support resources.
  • Assist students in navigating University processes and locating institutionally approved information and services.
  • Connect students with tutoring, academic support, financial aid and financial clearance resources, registration assistance, technology support, career services, certification preparation resources, and other relevant services.
  • Maintain ownership of student cases through appropriate follow-up rather than simply referring students from one office to another.
  • Track referrals and follow up with students to determine whether services were accessed and barriers were resolved.
  • Identify students who may be at risk of stopping out or withdrawing and coordinate timely interventions with appropriate University offices.
  • Support the AITLS Graduation Initiative through proactive outreach to students experiencing academic, financial, technological, or administrative barriers to degree progression.
  • Use the project's AI-powered chatbot and related technology as complementary tools for student support while providing personalized human assistance when individualized intervention is required.
  • Educate students on how to appropriately use available digital learning, academic, and AI-enabled resources.
  • Maintain accurate case notes, service logs, referral records, follow-up documentation, and student-contact records.
  • Monitor assigned student cases and document outcomes in accordance with established Distance Education Success Center procedures.
  • Participate in case coordination with academic programs, Student Affairs, Financial Aid, Registrar, Information Technology, Digital Learning, career services, and other institutional units.
  • Escalate complex student concerns to the appropriate University office while maintaining appropriate follow-up with the student.
  • Participate in training related to student navigation, AI literacy, digital learning, student success, institutional resources, FERPA, and applicable University policies.
  • Assist with student satisfaction surveys, service evaluations, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Contribute data required to assess utilization, referral completion, persistence, retention, and student satisfaction.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and comply with FERPA and University privacy and information-security requirements.
  • Perform other related duties necessary to advance the objectives of the Distance Education Success Center and AITLS, including institutionalization activities.
