Job Purpose 

The Tier 2 Interventionist (T2I) teaches, models, and practices skills with clients to promote recovery and wellness. The T2I provides school-based behavioral health prevention, early intervention, consultation, and care coordination services for students identified as at risk for emotional, behavioral, mental health, substance use, or co-occurring disorders. Working collaboratively with educators, families, Student Assistance Teams, and FCCBH clinical staff, the T2I helps identify behavioral health concerns early, implements evidence-informed interventions, strengthens protective factors, and coordinates access to appropriate behavioral health services. The T2I serves as the primary liaison between participating schools and FCCBH behavioral health services to ensure continuity of care across the project’s three-tier behavioral health continuum.

Qualifications 

  • A mental health professional, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, nursing, or a human services field, OR
  • At least two years of higher education with two years of experience in psychiatric, substance use treatment, or developmental disabilities services, OR
  • Any four-year degree with two years of experience in psychiatric, substance use treatment, or developmental disabilities services, OR
  • Four years of equivalent experience working with consumers and their families receiving psychiatric, substance use treatment, or developmental disabilities services to support their personal, social, and vocational competencies and successful community living.

Core Job Duties 

  • Implement evidence-informed Tier 2 behavioral health interventions for students.
  • Participate as an active member of multidisciplinary Student Assistance Teams.
  • Conduct behavioral health observations and assist in identifying students requiring additional behavioral health supports.
  • Deliver brief behavioral health interventions and skill-building activities.
  • Reinforce Wayfinder social-emotional learning competencies through individual and small-group interventions.
  • Collaborate with educators to develop classroom strategies that support student success.
  • Provide behavioral health consultation and coaching for school personnel.
  • Coordinate referrals to FCCBH services as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with families to strengthen engagement, provide education, and facilitate access to community resources.
  • Participate in transition planning and structured academic reintegration for students returning from treatment.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in accordance with FCCBH, SAMHSA, CARF, DMH, HIPAA, and FERPA requirements.
  • Participate in workforce development, quality improvement, and Project AWARE evaluation activities.
  • Adherence to all applicable evidence-based practice models. 
  • Orally communicate information effectively and accurately. 
  • Assure program operates within the constraints of the agency’s certification (CARF, DMH) standards and strategic plan related to clinical care. 
  • Abide by program and agency policies and procedures.
  • Other job duties and special projects as assigned.

Core Competencies/Working Knowledge 

  • Demonstrate knowledge of child and adolescent behavioral health and trauma-informed care.
  • Understand Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), and Student Assistance Team processes.
  • Apply evidence-informed practices, including Motivational Interviewing, crisis prevention and de-escalation, and behavioral consultation.
  • Reinforce social-emotional learning through the Wayfinder curriculum.
  • Engage families and collaborate with school personnel and community partners to support screening, referrals, and care coordination.
  • Understand and follow applicable HIPAA, FERPA, CARF, and Missouri Department of Mental Health requirements.
