We are seeking a Jail-Based Therapist to provide behavioral health and substance use treatment services for individuals participating in the Hampton City Jail Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program. This position offers a unique opportunity to support recovery, reduce barriers to successful reentry, and help individuals transition from incarceration to community-based care.


Required qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling
  • One year of clinical experience in a substance use disorder and/or correctional setting
  • Must be eligible for Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) supervision approval in Virginia within 30 days of hire.

What You'll Do

As a Jail-Based Therapist, you will provide behavioral health and substance use services to individuals participating in the Hampton City Jail Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program. Working closely with correctional staff, medical providers, and community partners, you will:

  • Complete behavioral health and substance use assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and recovery-focused education.
  • Maintain timely documentation and electronic health records.
  • Coordinate discharge planning and connect individuals with community-based behavioral health, recovery, and reentry services.
  • Collaborate with the H-NNCSB Re-entry Coordinator, jail staff, medical providers, and community partners to support continuity of care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and support medication-assisted treatment (MAT/MOUD) services as appropriate.
