Provides individualized, strengths-based, non-clinical case management to students of concern and those experiencing distress, crisis, or challenges that may affect their well-being and success. The position meets with students to assess needs and collaboratively develops care plans, coordinates connection to campus and community resources, facilitates access to treatment and crisis intervention, and conducts outreach and referral follow-up. The position also serves as a liaison with campus partners and contributes to departmental outreach, assessment, and evaluation efforts.

Responsibilities

The Care Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Serve as secondary responder to 974-HELP assistance line and all contacts associated with the Distressed Student Protocol
  • Collaborate in designing individual action plans for distressed students among resource units and agencies
  • Coordinate community resources and facilitate access to medical care including coordination of hospitalizations, discharge planning, and crisis intervention
  • Provide follow-up to ensure compliance with recommendations made by departmental leadership and/or CARE Team
  • Support the Case Management Team by obtaining, recording, and reviewing updates for distressed students and facilitating information flow among resources
  • Track referrals for distressed students from administration, faculty, staff and other members of the university community to ensure consistency and availability of accurate data.
  • Develop on-going referral relationships with campus and community partners by routine outreach and education efforts.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, college student personnel, human services, or related field.
  • Experience: Relevant experience in case management services and/or behavioral health crisis response
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organization skills; Demonstrated awareness, knowledge, and skills related to cultural competence; Ability to express compassionate care and empathy to students, families, faculty, staff, and alumni; Ability to plan, organize and prioritize based on needs; Knowledge of privacy and ethical guidelines; Ability to communicate difficult/sensitive information; Knowledge and awareness of mental health systems and practices

 

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment-based visa status.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, college student affairs administration or related field.
  • Experience: One year of experience in a community mental health context, helping profession or crisis response setting; Experience in case management in a higher education setting.

  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of case management practices within a higher education setting; Knowledge of systems such as Banner, Maxient, and CS Gold.

 

Work Location 

  • Location: Knoxville, TN
  • Onsite- Potential for one remote workday per week following first 90-120 days.

 

Compensation and Benefits 

  • UT market range: Market Range 8
  • Anticipated hiring range: Base range $23.00 - $25.00/hr, commensurate with education and years of experience
