Position Summary:

HousingPlus is hiring a Part-Time Social Worker to join our growing company. The Part-Time Social Worker is responsible for providing and coordinating clinical and supportive services to women residing in HousingPlus Permanent Supportive Housing Programs. The Social Worker will provide individualized support, psychosocial assessments, counseling, crisis intervention, service coordination, and clinical guidance to case management staff. The Part-Time Social Worker will work with individuals and families and provide specialized services to tenants experiencing complex issues, including trauma, post-traumatic stress, depression, domestic violence, adjustment issues, mental illness, and substance use disorders. The Social Worker will also assist tenants in connecting with and utilizing appropriate mental health and community-based services and may occasionally conduct home visits for assessment and support, as needed.


The Part-Time Social Worker must demonstrate strong clinical, communication, organizational, interpersonal, assessment, and crisis intervention skills. The role requires a blend of compassion, professional judgment, skills, and commitment to the successful execution of the HousingPlus Permanent Supportive Housing Program, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with tenants, case management staff, community-based service providers, and other program staff. The Social Worker must be able to respond appropriately to the clinical and supportive needs of tenants while maintaining professional boundaries, confidentiality, and a strengths-based approach.

Competencies/ Skills:

CLINICAL ASSESSMENT: Ability to conduct psychosocial assessments and identify the clinical, behavioral health, and supportive needs of tenants.
COMMUNICATION: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with tenants, staff, service providers, and other professionals.
ACTIVE LISTENING: Ability to listen attentively, understand tenant concerns, and respond with empathy, respect, and appropriate professional support.
CRISIS INTERVENTION: Ability to assess and respond appropriately to emergency and crisis situations and assist with identifying appropriate interventions and resources.
TRAUMA-INFORMED PRACTICE: Knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed approaches and the ability to provide services that recognize the impact of trauma on individuals and families. 
STRENGTHS-BASED SUPPORT: Ability to identify individual strengths and use those strengths to support tenant engagement, wellness, independence, and housing stability. 
TEAMWORK AND COLLABORATION: Ability to work effectively with case management staff, program leadership, community-based providers, and other professionals to coordinate appropriate services.

ORGANIZATION AND TIME MANAGEMENT: Ability to manage assigned responsibilities, maintain appropriate documentation, attend required meetings, and effectively prioritize competing needs.
PROFESSIONALISM AND ETHICAL PRACTICE: Ability to maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, respectful relationships, and appropriate professional standards when working with tenants and staff.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Carry a caseload of clients who require a higher level of service and support, particularly those who would benefit from working with a clinically trained mental health professional.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and consult on intakes and assessments as needed.
  • Provide individual counseling and clinical support as appropriate.
  • Provide emergency and crisis intervention.
  • Connect tenants with mental health and other community-based services.
  • Provide case management staff with clinical support, guidance, and training, including topics such as trauma-informed care and critical time intervention.
  • Conduct case conferences and assist staff with conflict and crisis resolution.
  • Develop and facilitate group sessions, support groups, and special supportive projects.
  • Participate in the development of individualized service plans for tenants with clinical needs.
  • Ensure coordination of services between HousingPlus tenants and community-based service providers.
  • May occasionally conduct home visits to provide assessment and support, as needed.
  • Participate in program meetings, agency-wide meetings, and staff training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with populations with SMI, SUD, homelessness, reentry, or related challenges.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and active listening skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain respectful and supportive relationships with tenants.
  • Ability to identify individual strengths and provide strengths-based support.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to assess tenant needs and provide appropriate clinical and supportive interventions.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergency and crisis situations.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and experience working with individuals experiencing complex psychosocial needs.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of an LMSW, LMHC, or other Master's level mental health professional credential appropriate to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing issues such as, but not limited to, PTSD, depression, trauma, homelessness, mental illness, domestic violence, and substance use disorders.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations and/or individuals residing in supportive housing is preferred.

Additional Schedule Details:

  • Based in a congregate or scattered site permanent supportive housing program setting.
  • Combination of office-based work, participant home visits, and community outreach.
  • May require evening or weekend hours depending on participant needs.
  • Report to Program Director overseeing Supportive Housing.
