Description:
Ability to provide groups and individual children with structure, nurture, challenge and engagement inclusive of their teacher and/or parent caregiver’s perspectives of the child/children’s needs. Provide both preventative skill building inventions and responsive crisis behavior support within the classroom environment.
Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or related field
- 2 year minimum experiencing working with children
- Familiar with the implications of trauma, attachment and diversity through previous work experiences
- Previous direct service experience with the desired population
- Strong computer skills in order to use appropriate databases for documentation.
- Strong organizational skills and communication skills.
- Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
Responsibilities:
The Social Emotional Support Specialist/Child Therapist is responsible for providing a wide range of social emotional related services including but not limited to:
- Maintain/achieve clinical Missouri License in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or related field to carry a caseload for treatment
- Provide immediate support during times of behavioral crisis to children in their classroom setting or in a designated Safe Place
- Collaborate with Adult Mental Health, Disabilities Services and Social Services to support whole family treatment
- Maintain open communication with parents/caregivers to ensure continuity of care for child
- Utilize the DSM-5 to assess, diagnose and determine treatment modalities and therapeutic goals
- Facilitate treatment focused therapeutic groups for children; including, but not limited to: prevention, small group, and whole class interventions
- Utilize Non-directive, Directive, and Attachment-based, Trauma Informed therapeutic modalities in individual therapy
- Create and maintain clinical documentation in all required systems and EHR
- Provide classroom support, consultation and whole-class interventions in early education classes as needed
- Maintain self-regulation in times of high stress.
- Engage children in utilizing social emotional strategies to regain regulated state in their natural environments
- Model skills and strategies for teachers and caregivers that the child to use within their daily routine and environment
- Reintegrate children back into their classroom activity when regulation has occurred
- Meet with children in their classroom environment to practice strategies for regulation, including safety, connection and executive functioning skills
- Implement positive behavior support and skill building through a trauma informed lens with regulated children on caseload within their classroom environment
- Participate in Behavior Support Plan meetings and reviews to update and collaborate with interdisciplinary team on strategies that are effective and need modification to best meet a child’s needs
