Position Summary

The Service Extension Area Manager advances The Salvation Army's mission of "Doing the Most Good" by leading social services programs and operations throughout Western and Central North Dakota. This position provides oversight of emergency assistance services, Pathway of Hope, community partnerships, seasonal initiatives, and service delivery activities to ensure consistent, participant-centered support for individuals and families experiencing crisis and pursuing greater stability.

The Service Extension Area Manager supervises assigned staff and volunteers, develops community relationships, supports operational effectiveness, and maintains a strong field presence throughout the service area. This role ensures services are delivered with excellence, compassion, fiscal responsibility, and alignment with organizational goals.

 

$54,630 to $65,225 annually, 40 hours per week 

 

Essential Functions (approximate time spent)

  • Program Leadership and Service Delivery (45%): Lead assigned social services programs, including emergency assistance and Pathway of Hope. Ensure consistent service delivery, program compliance, fiscal stewardship, and alignment with organizational goals. Supervise, train, and support assigned staff and volunteers.
  • Community Engagement and Partnership Development (15%): Build and maintain relationships with community partners, donors, agencies, and stakeholders to strengthen services, increase awareness of resources, and support collaborative initiatives.
  • Direct Participant Services and Case Management (15%): Provide emergency assistance, referrals, and case management services. Conduct participant assessments and support individuals and families in working toward established goals.
  • Seasonal Programs and Special Events (15%): Coordinate seasonal initiatives, fundraising activities, volunteer engagement, participant recognition events, and camp-related programming.
  • Documentation, Compliance, and Administrative Operations (10%): Maintain participant records, program documentation, financial records, and required reports. Ensure compliance with organizational policies, funding requirements, and confidentiality standards.
  • Outreach and Program Promotion (5%): Promote Salvation Army services, recruit Pathway of Hope participants, and support outreach efforts throughout the service area.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • If degree is in social work, must possess and maintain applicable state licensure.
  • Previous social services experience with increasing responsibility required.
  • Previous supervisory experience required.
  • Case management experience preferred.
  • Must pass required background checks, possess a valid driver's license, and meet MVR requirements.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and standard office technology.

 

Working Conditions

  • Mostly sedentary work, sitting for long periods of time and working on a computer, driving, walking, standing.
  • Home office with frequent travel through the service area.
  • Standard business hours with occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift 20 pounds.

                      

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision, training, and support to assigned employees and volunteers.
  • Make employment recommendations to supervisor.

 

Driving/Travel Requirements

  • Operate an agency or personal vehicle in support of program operations.
  • Frequent travel throughout the assigned service area is required and occasional travel to the Twin Cities.
