About the Role

This role is funded through the Maryland Department of Health, Population Health Improvement Fund (PHIF). The Produce Prescription (PHIF-Rx) initiative supports the integration of Food Is Medicine interventions into healthcare and community settings. The program provides fresh produce and related nutrition services to individuals experiencing food insecurity and managing diet-related health conditions, while advancing partnerships, evaluation, and sustainable reimbursement pathways for Produce Prescription programs across Maryland. The Senior Manager of Nutrition Prescription Initiatives leads Capital Area Food Bank’s nutrition prescription initiatives, including Produce Rx, medically supportive nutrition programs, and home-delivered produce services in two counties of MD. This role oversees program delivery, staff, partnerships, budgets, evaluation and grant requirements. Working across health care, community and internal teams, the Senior Manager improves access to healthy food for people experiencing food insecurity and diet-related chronic disease.

Essential Functions:

Program Leadership & Strategy


Lead the planning, implementation, and growth of Produce Rx [and other nutrition prescription] initiatives.
Set annual goals, performance measures, and operational plans; use results and emerging Food is Medicine practices to improve programs.
Develop standard procedures for enrollment, food distribution, home delivery, and outcomes tracking
Support strategies for sustainable funding, reimbursement, and payer partnerships.


Partnership Development


Build and manage partnerships with hospitals, Federally Qualified Health Centers, satellite sites, and community partners.
Coordinate referral and enrollment processes with clinical partners and set expectations for partner site performance.
Lead the Produce Rx Coalition and represent CAFB in relevant coalitions, advisory groups, and stakeholder meetings.


Program Management & Staff Supervision


Supervise program staff and contractors; set performance goals and support professional development.
Coordinate with Operations, Food Resources, Volunteer, Finance, Data and Development teams to deliver programs accurately and efficiently.
Train healthcare partner staff on program requirements and oversee implementation of partners as needed.


Compliance


Maintain required agreements, contracts, documentation, and grant records. 
Ensure compliance with applicable data privacy and security requirements.
Monitor food handling and distribution processes to maintain integrity of program offerings.


Evaluation & Analysis


Lead program evaluation, including survey design and measures of participant experience, health behaviors, clinical outcomes, and costs, as appropriate to each program.
Analyze qualitative and quantitative findings and develop dashboards, reports, and presentations for stakeholders.
Use evidence and participant feedback to recommend program improvements.


Financial & Grant Management


Develop and manage program and grants budgets.
Review expenditures, contracts, vendor invoices, and monthly billing in partnership with Finance.
Meet grant requirements and reporting deadlines and identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency.


Equity & Participant Experience


Ensure programs are designed and implemented using participant-centered and equity-focused practices.
Improve participant experience throughout enrollment, education, delivery, and transition processes.
Promote culturally appropriate nutrition resources and services.


Communication & Customer Service


Develop clear communications and presentations for clinical partners, participants, and other stakeholders.
Oversee participant and partner feedback processes, including complaints and follow-up.
Develop communication protocols for reminders, nutrition education, and surveys, including text messaging where used.


Miscellaneous


Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: Required Qualifications:


Bachelor's degree in public health, nutrition, health administration, social work, nonprofit management, or related field
At least five years of progressively responsible nonprofit, healthcare, public health, or Food Is Medicine programs
Experience leading community programs and partnerships, supervising staff, and managing budgets.
Experience with program evaluation, including developing measures and interpreting qualitative and quantitative findings.
Strong project management, communication, facilitation, and organizational skills.
Working knowledge of diet related chronic diseases and epidemiology background.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data management systems
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and to travel throughout the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region.


Preferred Qualifications:


Master’s degree in public health, nutrition, health care administration, or a related field.
Experience coordinating office and warehouse operations
Experience in healthcare, health care policy, or Food is Medicine programs.
Spanish fluency
Experience using social media to support organizational outcomes.  
Highly adaptable to changes and new opportunities. 
Experience working with communities facing food insecurity

Compensation:


$86,300 to $116,800 annually


Schedule:


Hybrid, with at least three days per week in the office


Employment Term


Temporary, grant funded for 22 months.  The role may become permanent or otherwise extended depending on program growth and funding.
