RESIDENTIAL COUNSELOR

Mountain Youth Academy is nestled in Mountain City, Tennessee which is conveniently located near Johnson City, TN, Boone, NC, and Abingdon, VA. We are a 120-bed residential treatment facility and assist in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of behavioral health issues for our young adolescent patients.

We are looking for a Residential Counselor to join our team. In this role, you will provide support, encouragement, and structure to individuals receiving behavioral health treatment while helping create a safe, respectful, and therapeutic environment.

Residential Counselor – Non-Degreed and Degreed

High School Diploma or GED required.

Bachelor’s degree with one year of health care experience required.

Full-time or PRN positions available

Without prior experience earn between $18-22 an hour

• Degrees increase the base rate.
• Increased rates for those with prior work experience in the medical, behavioral mental healthcare field, working with children and miliary services.
• Shift Differentials: $2-5
• Frequent opportunity for overtime

• Work Full Time as few as 3 days per week.
• Selection of 8, 12, or 16 / hour shifts
• Available full-time weekend shifts at only 36 hours

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Provide compassionate support and supervision to patients/residents throughout their treatment experience.
• Help maintain a safe, structured, and positive environment.
• Build trusting and respectful relationships with individuals in our care.
• Monitor patient behavior and communicate changes or concerns to the appropriate clinical team members.
• Assist with daily activities, routines, and therapeutic programming.
• Encourage participation in treatment and reinforce positive behaviors.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation.
• Follow all safety, confidentiality, and behavioral health policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with nurses, therapists, counselors, and other members of the treatment team.
• Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating patience, professionalism, and respect.

• Verbal De-escalation skills to assist the residents to regain control of their behaviors.
• Functions as a community lead
