Research Assistant - Term

Position Summary: 

The Fuchs Research Group in the Department of Special Education at Vanderbilt University is seeking a full-time Research Assistant to help train teachers to use a classwide fraction intervention for students with and without mathematics learning disabilities and to evaluate the intervention's feasibility. 

The Research Assistant will work closely with the Project Coordinator and research team to support teacher training, participant communication, and data management. This position is ideal for recent graduates or individuals interested in gaining research to practice experience before pursuing graduate training in psychology, education, special education, child development, social work, or related fields. 

This is a 30 hour per week, grant-funded position. School-based hours are required. 

About the Work Unit: 

The Fuchs Research Group engages in research and teacher training to further the understanding of how best to teach reading and mathematics to improve outcomes for young students with learning disabilities or students who are at risk for developing learning disabilities.

Key Functions and Expected Performance: 

• Assisting with training of elementary school teachers

• Administering surveys and questionnaires

• Assisting with data entry

• Preparing study materials and research packets

• Communicating with teachers and school personnel

• Supporting team meetings and administrative tasks

• Maintaining confidentiality and following IRB procedures

Supervisory Relationships: 

This position does not have supervisory responsibility and reports administratively and functionally to the Research Coordinator. 

Education and Certifications 

• Enrollment in or completion of a bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, special education, child development, human development, sociology, or related field preferred

   

Experience and Skills: 

• Experience working with children or in school settings is preferred.

• Strong organizational and communication skills

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively

• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple responsibilities

• Access to reliable transportation is required, as this position includes travel to local school sites for data collection and project activities

• Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. Vanderbilt University engages a third party to provide continuous up-to-date notifications regarding negative changes to motor vehicle records.
