Position Summary

This position is funded by a grant for a duration of time as defined by the grantor. 

Works with minimal supervision to train and support Sexual Health Investigators in disease investigation, surveillance, and contact tracing. Provides guidance on sexual health education, client counseling, and linkage to care, including support for LGBTQ+ populations. Ensures adherence to public health protocols, confidentiality standards, and effective service delivery.   

 

Pay Grade: 51 

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education  

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Three (3) years of field investigations, contact tracing experience with one (1) year experience as a contact tracer or field investigator trainer; AND 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public health, social work, sociology, psychology, health administration, or a closely related field; OR 
  • An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience. 
  • Experience working with women, children, and families, or in public health. 
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Coordinates and delivers training for new and current Health Investigators on STI pathways and systems (e.g., NBS, PRISM, PTBMIS, MyInsight).  
  • Develops, implements, and maintains standardized training curriculum and materials.  
  • Monitors and evaluates trainee progress; maintains training logs and documentation.  
  • Provides ongoing training to staff, leads, and supervisors on updates to protocols, policies, and procedures.  
  • Prepares and submits regular training activity reports and progress updates to management.  
  • Ensures all training and program activities comply with state, county, and program guidelines.  
  • Participates in multidisciplinary collaboration (e.g., Sexual Health, Family Planning, Ryan White) to support program planning and service delivery.  
  • Supports and participates in audits to ensure compliance with regulatory and program requirements.  
  • Communicates effectively with clients, staff, providers, and community partners; ensures accurate and timely documentation.  
  • Maintains confidentiality, complies with all applicable laws and policies, participates in continuing education, and manages a limited caseload to maintain field competency. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or directed.

  • Knowledge of community resources and public health systems related to sexual health and disease prevention.  
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with staff, clients, and diverse populations.  
  • Ability to analyze issues, exercise sound judgment, and implement effective solutions.  
  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.  
  • Ability to foster a supportive, inclusive environment and work effectively under pressure.  
  • Skill in training, program evaluation, and educating staff using evidence-based practices.  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and other County software applications.  

 

Special Requirements 

  • Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license upon the date of employment.  
  • Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet Shelby County requirements for automobile insurance upon the date of employment.  
  • Must be willing to carry a cellular phone.  
  • Work will require attendance at staff meetings. 
  • Must be able to travel to locations outside of the office, home visitation, community agencies, schools, doctor offices, and secure correctional facilities.  

 

Physical Requirements  

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, ascending/descending stairs, stooping, and repetitive motion. 
  • The physical requirements of this position are medium work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
