Position Summary  
 

This position is funded by a grant for a duration of time as defined by the grantor. 

Engages in multi-agency collaboration, working under general supervision to develop and implement initiatives focused on preconception health, prenatal care, interconception care, and other critical population-based fetal and infant mortality reduction strategies.   

 

Pay Grade: 51 

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education  
 

 

Minimum Qualifications 

 

  • Three (3) years of experience in public health with one (1) year of experience working in health promotion or education; AND 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public health, social work, public health administration, or related field; OR 
  • An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience. 
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

 

  • Overseas health promotion related to the reduction of fetal and infant mortality, i.e., safe sleep education, car seat education, healthy living, etc.  
  • Presents oral and written presentations about fetal and infant mortality, including reduction strategies. 
  • Facilitates the FIMR Community Action Team recruitment and meetings. 
  • Keeps abreast of all related activities and maintains an inventory of local programs from preconception health, prenatal, perinatal, postnatal, and early childhood programs, and their scopes of service. 
  • Assists with the implementation of community dialogue, focus groups, and other events designed to foster community engagement. 
  • Responsible for carrying out mandatory assigned tasks related to public health emergency preparedness and response, training, and periodic disaster drills. 
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply public health concepts and principles to the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs.  
  • Knowledge and understanding of the concepts of health disparities, institutionalized racism, and other social determinants of health that negatively impact birth outcomes. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks and agendas, including the ability to translate strategic vision and goals into specific projects. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of public, private, and volunteer organizations, agencies, and collaborators. 
  • Ability to tactfully interact with the public and co-workers, exercise judgment in evaluating situations, and make evidence-based decisions. 
  • Ability to accurately collect, enter, and evaluate data, contribute to sound recommendations, compile information, and prepare technical and non-technical reports with limited supervision.  
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, diverse environment with minimal supervision. 
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office ® (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) and County software application. 

 

Special Requirements 

 

  • Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license or secure one upon date of employment. 
  • Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet county requirements for automobile insurance upon the date of employment. 
  • Work will require attendance at meetings and activities on weekends and/or after regular work hours. 
  • Work will require travel to locations outside of the office.  
  • Must maintain all required certifications and licenses throughout the duration of employment. 

 

Physical Requirements 

 

  • Work will require lifting and transporting materials and supplies to external locations.
