What You'll Be Doing

Time Limited - Position Ends December 31, 2026

The Prevention Social Worker position works in in the Child Welfare Division, through the Neighborhood Networks Program in Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention, to provide wrap around case management services to families at risk of abusing/neglecting their children.  Families are referred from our community and school partners and participate voluntarily.  The Neighborhood Network Social Worker conducts a comprehensive assessment of families’ strengths and needs and participates in family service planning meetings, develops & implements service plans with measurable goals and objectives. 

This position will:

  • Work with families to overcome barriers and achieve improvement in functioning
  • Refer, arrange & advocate for services that the family needs
  • Conduct home visits to families for the purpose of counseling and monitoring of services and outcomes
  • Work with the family to develop a natural support system which may include both formal and informal supports
  • Enter client information into computer systems while maintaining client records
  • Utilize social work tools such as but not limited to genograms, ecomaps, and financial worksheets

Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field
  • One year of job-related experience
  • Completion of the NC Child Welfare Education Collaborative (CWEC) traineeship can be substituted for 1 year of experience
  • Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • Experience with interviewing, screening, and assessing family needs in a social services environment
  • Community engagement experience
  • Resource development experience

How Will We Know You're 'The One'?

  • Experience in working with at-risk families
  • Knowledge of coaching and case management techniques to interface & connect with traumatized and difficult to reach families
  • Knowledge of programs and services for families
  • Possess strong interpersonal and customer services skills
  • Ability to build and maintain positive, productive relationships with peers, colleagues, managers, providers, the community and other professionals
  • Ability to respond to and manage ever-changing requirements and priorities with flexibility and a positive attitude
  • Ability to use appropriate interpersonal skills and methods to reduce tension and resolve conflict
  • Experience in community outreach and engagement

Location: HSC Swinburne Raleigh, NC 27610

Employment Type: Temporary

Work Schedule: Mon - Fri 8:30AM-5:15PM; frequent evening and weekend events required

Hiring Range: 26.91 - 36.33 Commensurate with Experience

Market Range: 26.91 - 45.75
