A bit about the role
The Guernsey Youth & Housing Project provides vital support to young people across the Bailiwick aged 13–25. As a Practitioner, you will play a key role in empowering young people by delivering personalised support and evidence‑based interventions tailored to their individual needs. A core part of the role is working with young people who have been affected by or are at risk of future homelessness helping them strengthen their independent living skills needed to thrive by focussing on personal, social, emotional, and economic wellbeing. In this role, you’ll work collaboratively with young people to develop personalised plans and invest time in building meaningful, trusting relationships that support their growth and future aspirations
You will also contribute to the wider preventative work of the service by responding to young people without accommodation through home finding, family conflict mediation and delivering a wide range of projects that support young people who are facing housing insecurity.
Our service takes pride in being welcoming, accessible, and grounded in respect. We value young people as individuals and are committed to providing professional, non‑judgemental, and confidential support that encourages informed and healthy decision‑making.
How you'll help to create brighter futures
- Provide a high‑quality service to young people, centred on building positive, trusting relationships and supporting their development.
- Deliver evidence‑based, personalised interventions, offering support on a one‑to‑one basis, in small groups, and within classroom settings.
- Deliver training and awareness sessions to professionals and community partners, helping them respond effectively to the needs of young people.
- Maintain strong working relationships and effective communication with colleagues across the service, as well as with external agencies and partner organisations.
- Organise and manage daily work objectives, ensuring tasks and responsibilities are completed efficiently and to a high standard
Let's talk about you

- Degree or recognised professional qualification in a related area (e.g. Teaching, Performing Arts, Youth Work, Social Work)
- Experience of working effectively with young people (from 10 – 18 years) in groups and individually, including developing a positive rapport with children or young people.
- Demonstrable skills to develop effective and productive relationships with schools and other agencies working with young people.
- Knowledge of health improvement or public health related issues, specifically drugs, alcohol and tobacco
- Good working knowledge of Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva)
Why Action for Children?
Every child should have a loving home, food, warmth, the chance to grow and learn - the support to cope with life’s challenges. But too many children don’t. By bringing your passion and unique skills and experience, you’ll help us change that where it really matters.
We've been driven by love to take action for children for over 150 years, giving them the protection and practical help they need. A lot’s changed since 1869. But what children really need, hasn’t. So as long as children need us, we’ll be here.

Our Commitment to Equity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism
At Action for Children, we are committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels respected, valued, and able to thrive. We know that racism and discrimination create barriers, and we are taking active steps to challenge these inequalities in our organisation and in the communities we serve.
We strongly welcome applications from people who are Black, Asian, or from other racialised and ethnically marginalised communities, as well as disabled people, who are currently under-represented in our workforce. We are committed to removing barriers in our recruitment processes and ensuring fair access to opportunities.
We also encourage applications from men, who are under-represented in our Children’s Services roles. We recognise that people hold multiple identities, and we value the richness this brings to our team.
