Job Summary

The Crisis Stabilization Clinician will work directly under the supervision of the Crisis Assessment Supervisor. This position provides crisis intervention, stabilization, assessment, and short-term treatment to individuals in acute emotional, behavioral, or psychiatric crises.

The clinician conducts comprehensive assessments, delivers immediate stabilization services, and develops short-term treatment and safety plans that reduce risk and prevent future crises. The clinician collaborates closely with medical, psychiatric, legal, and social service partners.

This position demands strong clinical judgment, the ability to remain effective under pressure, and a commitment to serving individuals with compassion and professionalism.


Schedule

This is a part-time position, the schedule will be 1 12-hour shift per week


Essential Functions

  • Deliver crisis intervention, de-escalation, and short-term counseling
  • Conduct suicide and homicide risk assessments using evidence-based tools and clinical judgment
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, emergency medical services, hospitals, and courts during crisis responses
  • Facilitate voluntary and involuntary hospitalization processes in accordance with the Michigan Mental Health Code
  • Initiate and complete petitions for involuntary treatment when clinically indicated
  • Provide psychoeducation to individuals and families regarding mental health symptoms, treatment options, and crisis resources
  • Support individuals experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms, substance use crises, and co-occurring disorders
  • Engage individuals using trauma-informed, person-centered, and culturally responsive approaches
  • Advocate for client safety, rights, and least restrictive treatment options
  • Monitor individual progress during crisis stabilization and adjust interventions as needed
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and discharge planning
  • Coordinate transportation and follow-up services to ensure continuity of care after crisis resolution
  • Maintain knowledge of community resources, inpatient and residential availability, and eligibility criteria
  • Participate in quality assurance, utilization review, and compliance audits as required
  • Assist in training and mentoring new staff when applicable
  • Maintain licensure, required certifications, and continuing education in accordance with Michigan regulations
  • Utilize electronic health record systems accurately and efficiently
  • Apply Michigan Medicaid and crisis service billing requirements when documenting services

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling

Licensure

  • Must be licensed as an LLMSW, LMSW, LP, LLP, LLPC, or LPC by the State of Michigan and maintain licensure

Training Requirements

  • Certification in crisis intervention or trauma-informed care

Experience Requirements

  • Two years of professional crisis experience (hospital, crisis center, child welfare, etc.)

Additional Information

  • Must have reliable transportation to and from OCHN and for required offsite meetings or site visits
