The Ombudsman serves as an Independent advocate for residents of Long Term Care facilities, including nursing homes, personal care homes, and assisted living facilities. The Ombudsman investigates and resolves complaints, protects residents’ rights, and works to improve the quality of life and quality of care for older adults receiving long-term care services.
The salary range for this position is $21/hr. - $23.00/hr. This role is Daylight hours, Monday – Friday. This role will start off as a casual role with mandatory paid training 1.5 hours to 3 hours weekly at the start of November until the start of the permeant full-time position on 01/01/2027.
Resident Advocacy
Advocate for the rights, dignity, and well-being of long-term care residents
Empower residents to voice concerns and make informed decisions
Promote resident-centered care and self-determination
Complaint Investigation and Resolution
Receive, investigate, and resolve complaints from residents, families, or others
Address issues related to care quality, resident rights, abuse, neglect, and access to services
Work collaboratively with facilities while maintaining resident confidentiality
Monitoring & Facility Visits
Conduct regular, unannounced visits to long-term care facilities
Observe conditions, policies, and resident interactions
Identify trends or systematic issues requiring intervention
Outreach & Education
Educate residents, families, and facility staff, and the public on resident rights and Ombudsman services
Provide presentations and training to community groups and stakeholders
Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and PEERs
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate and timely case records
Prepare reports, statistics, and documentation as required by state and federal guidelines
Ensure compliance with confidentiality and data protection standards
System Advocacy
Identify patterns of systematic problems affecting residents
Recommend policy and procedural changes to improve long-term care
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent communication, interviewing and critical thinking skills, time management, and conflict resolution skills
Proficiency with electronic case records and detailed-oriented documentation
Ability to work independently
Working Conditions
Combination of office and fieldwork, including facility visits
Emotional demands associated with working with vulnerable populations.
