Position Summary:

The Department of Undergraduate Studies at Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Navigate Outreach Specialist in Boca Raton, FL.


This Specialist position is responsible for providing general advising services. The successful candidate will be committed to gaining advising knowledge for their unit and campus, developing an informed advising practice based on a theoretical framework, and participating in professional engagement. 


This role monitors student academic plans to provide timely, proactive outreach to ensure degree progress and timely graduation using defined learning outcomes. The Specialist reinforces and supports student degree progress, academic success and retention, in alignment with university strategic goals and initiatives. Working collaboratively with advising units and academic colleges, the position contributes to the development of programs. Participates in student recruitment and onboarding activities on and off campus.


Summary of Responsibilities:


  • Facilitate student outreach, communication plans, and marketing.
  • Create Success Network communication plans for students and staff.
  • Provides academic advising to all first and second-year students, including transfer students at FAU with under 45 earned credit hours and all undeclared students regardless of hours earned.
  • May serve as a liaison to an assigned college or student support unit on campus, and assist with revising and updating curriculum information and other media publications.
  • Clear undergraduate registration holds; respond to email inquiries and phone messages, present at new student orientations, assist with campus events, such as the Admissions Office open house and campus days, and other activities supporting the mission of UAS. 
  • Performs retention efforts, virtual student outreach, and job-related tasks for some extended evening hours on a rotating basis to support FTIC, second-year students, and UAS.
  • Work and support undecided students, students with academic difficulty, and students transitioning into their major or choice, and regularly interact with students, parents, university personnel, and the general public. 
  • Provide additional advising web resources.
  • Perform other job-related tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and one year of appropriate experience required.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counselor Education, Psychology, Education, or a closely related field. One year of experience in academic advising, student success, counseling, orientation, retention, or other student services functions within a higher education setting preferred. Relevant graduate internships may be considered toward the required experience.

Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Access, with the ability to effectively utilize technology to support student outreach, communication, record management, and advising functions.

Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively with students, families, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders.

Working knowledge of the Appreciative Advising framework and its application to student engagement, academic success, retention, and developmental advising practices is strongly preferred.

Salary:

$55,000 annually.
