Join a team of dedicated service providers who seek to promote the accessibility of services that improve quality of life and support self-determination for persons with mental and developmental disorders.  Texoma Community Center (TCC) is one of 39 Texas Community Centers, which are governmental entities as defined by Title 7 of the Texas Health and Safety Code. 

Position Summary:  The goal for the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Outreach Specialist is to increase awareness of MHFA training, increase the number of MHFA training sessions available, and increase the number of overall trainings completed. It is the responsibility of the Outreach Specialist to ensure that all requirements listed in the HHSC Mental Health First Aid Contract Grantee responsibilities are met.  This position will develop a marketing strategy and coordinated regional plan for delivering and funding Youth MHFA training for school districts and collaborating with the Education Service Centers (ESCs) in the local area. This position will frequently represent TCC in the community and is required to maintain the highest level of professionalism and be a positive representation of the mission of TCC. MHFA Instructors are required to protect the fidelity of the course and teach the National Council MHFA curriculum without variation. This position operates under trauma-formed and recovery-oriented models of care which align with the CCBHC standards.

Qualifications:

 

Education and/or Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Sociology or Psychology required.  
  • Two (2) years community mental health experience preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with mental illness and/or addiction issues desirable. 
  • Experience in public speaking and presentations preferred. 
  • Experience and education may not be substituted for one another. 
  • Bilingual preferred. 

 

Certificates, Licensure, Registrations:

 

  • Current driver’s license and vehicle for use while at work.
  • Current First Aid and CPR, including AED, current driver’s license and bi-annual DMV review, maintain professional license (if applicable), and all required Center job specific training requirements. 
  • Certification as an Instructor in Youth and Adult Mental Health First Aid (To be completed after start of employment, if do not already possess).
  • Complete specialty MHFA Module trainings

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Experience in a field relating to the agency program.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major course work in a field relevant to the assignment. 
  • Experience and education may not be substituted for one another.
  • (Preferred) Master’s Degree in Human Services field (Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family or Social Work)
  • (Preferred) Experience in public speaking and presentations and Bilingual
  • Consistently practices Trauma-informed Model of Care, understands and considers the pervasive nature of trauma.
  • The knowledge of cultural differences and ability to work with individuals from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to speak a second language relevant to population served preferred.

  • Attends all staff meetings as directed.
  • Regular attendance and reliability are critical to business and program operations.
  • Ability to generate, read, interpret, national and state regulations, operational and maintenance and organizational policy procedures  
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively to maintain good working relationships
