Position: Mental Health Rehabilitation Practitioner

Compensation: $50,000-$52,000 per year (based on level of credentials)

Location: Ronkonkoma, NY 

Hours: 37.5 hours/week; daytimes, occasional evenings 

Start Date: Immediately


Position Description:

A Mental Health Rehabilitation Practitioner will establish helping relationships with 24 people who have psychiatric and co-occurring substance abuse disabilities. The primary role of the practitioner is to assist individuals to connect with and utilize formal and natural resources critical to attaining and maintaining productive, healthy, and satisfying lifestyles. Key activities include individual rehabilitative goal planning, group work using a psycho-educational format, and teamwork with multi-disciplinary colleagues within an OMH licensed PROS program.


Qualifications:

The successful candidate should possess or be quickly able to acquire the following skills and abilities:

  • Persons with bi-lingual skills and personal experience are highly encouraged to apply.
  •  Excellent inter-personal communication including the ability to establish empathic, empowering relationships with people who have experienced psychiatric and co-occurring disabilities and trauma
  •  Sound communication and organizational skills
  •  Strong computer skills as an electronic record and e-health information exchange is used daily
  •  Basic knowledge of the public health/behavioral health system, public entitlements, and psychiatric recovery needed.
  •  Applicants with personal, lived recovery experience are encouraged to apply.
  •  Training and understanding in substance abuse and/or learning disabilities a plus
  •  Knowledge and experience with Cognitive Behavioral practice is a plus
  •  Knowledge/interest in Dual Diagnosis recovery a plus


   Paraprofessional staff include the following:

  • Other Individuals who are at least 18 years old, possess at least a high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate, and demonstrate 6 months professional and/or personal experience in a mental health or human services field

  • Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT & CAT-LP)

  • Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC & MHC-LP)
  • Licensed Psychoanalyst
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry

Education:

A Bachelor’s degree in a human service/health discipline and two years’ experience is required. Candidates with Master’s degrees related to physical/mental health are also encouraged to apply.
