Additional Information: In this role you will be performing the administrative duties of the Mental Health Coordinator with Milieu Therapist coverage as needed.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in child and adolescent therapy preferred
  • Experience in the emergency department or psych preferred

EDUCATION

  • Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements from the American Heart Association required upon hire. 

Mental Health Coordinator Responsibilities:

  • Optimizes the ED Clinical Therapists productivity by providing clerical support to the ED Clinical Therapists as well as patient/family psychosocial support.
  • Performs clerical functions including the management of phone lines, faxing, documentation of information received by phone or fax, retrieval of medical records, scanning of documents, and other clerical functions not listed.
  • Assists with the coordination and management of treatment plans with the patient and the family regarding follow up plans, home care and safety planning (as training allows), community resources/entities, and transitions to other facilities or organizations.
  • Manages confidential patient information and ensures compliant and accurate management of records.
  • Functions as a point of contact for the department; responsible for the professional and timely response to calls, messages, and the forwarding of communications to the responsible party.
  • Continually communicates with patients and families, multidisciplinary team members, and outside agencies to facilitate the coordination of clinical activities and to enhance the effect of a seamless transition from one level of care to another across the continuum.
  • Builds therapeutic and trusting relationships with patients, families, and caregivers through effective communication and listening skills.
  • Works collaboratively with others to define and study areas of inefficiency and participate in process improvement projects.
  • Increases quality, efficiency and patient satisfaction in related areas.
  • Collects, completes and submits data/reports in a timely manner.
  • Stays abreast of payor guidelines and standards.
  • Maintains knowledge of community resources and capacities to facilitate patient transitions of care.
  • Remains current on clinical advancements related to primary patient population.
  • Proactively seeks to understand areas/roles outside of immediate area/role within department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Milieu Therapist Responsibilities:

  • Interacts therapeutically with patients during milieu and/or room-based activities
  • Provides direct patient care, including assisting patients with activities of daily living and personal care
  • Provides support to RNs by assisting with the collection of vital signs, data, and specimens as appropriate per education and training
  • Reports changes in patient status and any concerns to the charge nurse and/or physician
  • Escorts patients to off-unit procedures/appointments as needed
  • Provides orientation and education to patients and families regarding program processes throughout their time in treatment
  • Provides emotional support to patients and families throughout their hospitalization while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Assists in implementing treatment plans for all patients with a focus on assigned patients
  • Assists with learning activities in the classroom
  • Assists in implementing individual patient behavioral programs under the direction of the multidisciplinary treatment team
  • Contributes to the interdisciplinary treatment planning process by communicating observations, suggesting interventions, and participating in patient care related meetings as appropriate
  • Conducts milieu-based groups utilizing unit specific curriculum
  • Monitors and reports patient’s response to treatment interventions both verbally and in the EHR
  • Therapeutically intervenes and assists in crisis situations
  • Uses available resources to learn and improve patient care knowledge and skills;
  • Participates in evaluation of self and peers
  • Accepts instruction and guidance from preceptor and other clinically advanced personnel
  • Enhances professional growth and development by completing educational activities which address specific clinical competencies
  • Accepts assignments to various patient units and hospital departments as census dictates
  • Participates in staff meetings and Quality Improvement initiatives
  • Maintains strict patient and family confidentiality
  • Performs other duties and special projects as needed and as training and education allows
