Job description:

Position Title: Behavior Specialist: Early Childhood Behavioral Intervention (ECBI) Program

Status: 10 month Full-Time (32 Hours/week)

Reports To: Lead Mental Health Therapist

JOB DESCRIPTION:

BGTPS provides Early Childhood Behavioral Intervention (ECBI) services to children ages 3–5 and their support systems in Baltimore City/County.

This position is responsible for behavioral observation, assessment support, individualized behavior support planning, and adult coaching within early learning centers, Head Start programs, childcare settings, and family homes. The Behavior Specialist works under the direction of the Lead Mental Health Therapist as part of a collaborative team, building teacher and caregiver capacity to prevent, reduce, and respond to challenging behavior with the goal of developing/increasing social skills and kindergarten readiness.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling (Master's preferred)
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience working with children exhibiting challenging behavior.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance
  • Ability to pass criminal background check, Child Protective Services clearance, and fingerprinting
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete Social/Emotional Screening (DECA/ASQ-SE) and gather assessment data.
  • Conduct classroom and community-based behavioral observations, including ABC data collection.
  • Develop individualized Support Plans and submit for supervisor review and approval prior to implementation.
  • Model intervention strategies in the classroom then coach teachers and caregivers to independent implementation.
  • Facilitate SEL small groups, classroom-wide supports, and Parent/Staff Trainings.
  • Provide accurate, concise, and concurrent documentation according to program procedures and policies in EHR.
  • Collect, graph, and analyze behavioral data to measure progress toward individualized goals.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams (IEP/CDT/IFSP/Staffing/Team).
  • Work between multiple partner sites as needed by program need and productivity.
  • Recognize and report suspected abuse or neglect as a mandated reporter; escalate clinical risk to the Lead Mental Health Therapist immediately.

SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of child development, behavior function, and positive behavior support strategies.
  • Ability to remain regulated and de-escalate effectively in active classroom environments.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to coach adults without creating dependence to teachers and caregivers leave more confident.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage a mobile caseload with minimal daily oversight.
  • Travel throughout the community to conduct site visits, attend meetings, and participate in community educational programs.
  • Form strong connections with partner site staff and families.
  • Cultural responsiveness and sensitivity to how family and community context shape behavior and help-seeking.
