I. MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

 

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Membership & Outreach Coordinator (MOC) is responsible for activities related to the acquisition and retention of members by developing and marketing benefits, leading program development, and managing membership information. Working closely with the Operations, Membership & Programs (OMP) Manager, this position supports all membership efforts and events, both in-person and virtual. Though the majority of this role will support the membership of NASW-NJ, this position will also be responsible for providing some support and resources to the membership of NASW-PA, in the greater Philadelphia area.

 

II. BASIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Serve as the first point of contact for members, providing support and resources as applicable.
  • Develop and implement innovative member engagement strategies that improve member retention.
  • Develop, implement, and support initiatives to increase membership from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, as well as from different stages of social work careers.
  • Coordinates all chapter membership related communication including email management system, maintaining the membership mailbox, and creating/editing membership welcome letters and other correspondence.
  • Supports the OMP in creating, maintaining, and optimizing creative membership benefits and programs. This includes maintenance of existing content, as well as recommending and implementing actions for new programs, tools, technology, and processes to support membership.
  • Create and maintain relationships with key external partners and stakeholders, including Schools of Social Work.
  • Serve as the staff liaison to various volunteer committees.

 

Membership Services:

 

  • Supports membership engagement, retention, and growth initiatives by attending outreach events, in-person and/or virtual, as requested by the Executive Director and/or the Operations, Membership, & Programs Manager.
  • Serves as primary staff contact for membership inquiries and support.
  • Supports membership services, communications, and support processes.
  • Monitors membership data, trends, and engagement metrics as requested by the Executive Director and/or the Operations, Membership, & Programs Manager.
  • Collaborates with the Executive Director and the Operations, Membership, & Programs Manager on ways to strengthen member values through programs, benefits, and outreaches.
  • Supports membership campaigns and recruitment strategies.

 

Additional responsibilities:

 

  • Other duties as assigned by Executive Director and Operations Manager.
  • Attends chapter events, such as annual conferences, Fall events, and support for workshops as needed.
  • Manages the internal membership mailbox and responds accordingly.
  • This position qualifies for telework arrangement, as outlined in the chapter policy, but is required to work in-person at least two days per week, and will include some travel to the greater Philadelphia, PA area.
  • This position may require some evening and weekend availability.
  • This position will need to have access to reliable transportation and be available to be in the field.

 

III. MINIMUM WORK REQUIREMENTS:

 

Skills:

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to build trust and collaborate across sectors and with diverse stakeholders.
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • This position requires the ability to routinely travel to the Princeton, NJ office, throughout the state of NJ, and the greater Philadelphia, PA area.

 

Knowledge: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, or related field required (MSW preferred).
  • Experience in nonprofit, association, or professional membership organization leadership
  • Knowledge of New Jersey’s continuing education administration and compliance.
  • Demonstrated operational and program management experience.
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills.

 

Experience: 

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in operational administration, continuing education program management, or a related field.
  • Experience planning events, workshops, or trainings a plus.
  • Experience with budgeting a plus.
