Position Summary

Provides direct support, advocacy, and case management services to shelter residents while serving as a resource to frontline shelter staff. Assists residents in identifying goals, accessing resources, and addressing barriers to safety and stability. Provides additional support with complex resident needs, shelter operations, and crisis situations, and participates in the shelter on-call rotation.

Job Description

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, or related human services field required
  • Preferred: Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or license-eligible 
  • Minimum of two years of experience providing crisis intervention, advocacy, case management, residential, or other direct human services required. 
  • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, or human trafficking preferred. 
  • Previous experience providing peer leadership, training, or guidance to staff preferred.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license and insurability; ability to pass background checks (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Federal Bureau of Investigations.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Provides trauma-informed crisis intervention, advocacy, safety planning, and support to shelter residents.
  • In collaboration with Shelter Manager, maintains a small case management caseload and assists residents with individualized goals, referrals, resources, and barriers to safety and stability.
  • Assist with shelter operations, including: providing shelter coverage, safety, transportation, conflict resolution, assist with cleaning/food prep as needed, cleaning responsibilities, facilitating workshops for survivors on self-sufficiency skills, and provide daily survivor engagement
  • Serves as a resource to Crisis Intervention Specialists by providing guidance and support with resident needs, crisis situations, and shelter procedures.
  • Assists with problem-solving complex resident situations and promotes consistent implementation of shelter policies and procedures.
  • Participates in the shelter on-call rotation, including responding to after-hours concerns and providing onsite coverage when necessary.
  • Communicates significant resident, safety, or operational concerns to the Shelter Manager and/or Director or other appropriate leadership.
  • Completes required case management, incident, and program documentation accurately and timely.
  • Adheres to Service Excellence standards at all times.
  • Represent the organization in community events, coalitions, and taskforces as assigned.
  • Complies with agency policies and procedures, federal and state requirements, CARF standards and educational/certification/registry requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Work environment: This position will be in a facility with victims of domestic violence or sexual assault. In addition to interaction with the survivors, the employee may have interactions with families of these individuals, the assailants and law enforcement.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week. Sunday-Thursday 4:00pm-12:00am
  • Hours may vary and may include evenings, weekends and holiday coverage
