ABOUT 211 METRO CHICAGO
211 Metro Chicago is a 24/7/365 helpline connecting Cook County residents to health and social service resources. 211 Metro Chicago is operated by United Way of Metro Chicago and launched with support from the City of Chicago, Cook County, philanthropic partners and the 211 Metro Chicago Advisory and Executive Boards composed of business, civic, charitable and social service organizations.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Manager of Digital Content is responsible for maintaining United Way of Metro Chicago’s digital content presence across all platforms, including email campaigns, social media, and websites. The Manager of Digital Content develops and executes content recommendations to advance the marketing and communications departmental goals to increase brand visibility, audience growth, and conversion.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Email Marketing & Communications: United Way + 211 Metro Chicago
- Serve as the primary content lead for email marketing and constituent communications across United Way and 211 Metro Chicago.
- Create content and work with Sr. Manager, Art Director to build and deploy all mass communications in Marketing Cloud email marketing tool. Emails include, but are not limited to monthly newsletter(s), 211 newsletters, corporate newsletters, and campaign leaders.
- Create, edit, build, and deploy all content for Marketing Cloud journeys.
- Work with event project leads and Sr. Manager, Art Director to create, edit, build, and deploy email communications to support events and programming, e.g., invites, reminders, thank you, etc.
- Collaborate with Marketing Activation Manager and Sr. Director, Art Manager to create, edit, build and deploy direct mail emails.
- Social Media Content & Engagement: United Way + 211 Metro Chicago
- Develop and manage content across all United Way and 211 Metro Chicago social media channels.
- Execute social media tactics to achieve approved goals.
- Develop and post all social content through Sprout Social.
- Work with Sr. Manager, Art Director to update social graphics for all events, programs, etc.
- Manage and update supporting social media resources, including Linktree and other audience engagement tools.
- Maintain social media management tools, including Sprout Social, and identify opportunities to strengthen audience engagement and growth.
- Monitor notifications and engage with tagged and partner posts.
- Website Content Strategy & Management
- Serve as the primary content owner for United Way and 211 Metro Chicago websites.
- Develop, write, review, and update website content to ensure information remains accurate, engaging, accessible, and aligned with organizational priorities.
- Work with Marketing Operations Manager to manage all content edits for all United Way of Metro Chicago-owned websites, reviewing for accuracy and SEO optimization.
- Provide Marketing Operations Manager with necessary links, updates, etc. for press and story posts on website.
- Work with teams across United Way to plan, create, and manage web content that works to achieve United Way’s strategic goals while also keeping to modern SEO and User Experience (UX) best practices.
- Optimize website content and organization for greatest accessibility and organic search traffic.
- Development Team Communications Support
- Develop social content and other communications support for corporate partnerships.
- Provide editing support for all fundraising communications, e.g., donor solicitations, presentations, stewardship reports, etc.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Activation Manager to develop integrated campaign messaging across marketing channels.
- Campaign Materials Content Management
- Review and update content for all campaign materials 2x / year (40 + individual items) to align with approved content and messaging direction provided by Communications Director.
- Provide content direction and recommendations to the Marketing Activation Manager and Sr. Manager, Art Director throughout campaign development and production processes.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify content updates and opportunities for message optimization.
- Organizational Communications & Content Stewardship
- Manage shared Marketing & Communications inboxes, responding to inquiries and routing requests to appropriate team members.
- Maintain and update staff biographies and other organizational profile content.
- Internal REDI (Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Committee
- Represent Marcom team on REDI committee to support with programming.
OTHER DUTIES

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate has a background creating content for CMS-managed websites, building inbox-friendly email campaigns, and developing engaging social media content and experiences.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A) in Digital Marketing or related field of study and/or three or more years in a digital marketing or related digital content role
- Experience and a proven track record of creating and executing successful email marketing campaigns through an email marketing tool such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud
- Strong understanding of WordPress or a similar CMS
- Demonstrated skills designing and developing engaging social media posts and short form digital videos
- Proven understanding in current website content accessibility guidelines and SEO best practices

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, Zoom Webinar, Trello, SmartSheets; experience with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) preferred.
- Photography or video editing a plus.
Other Requirements
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, for events as required.
- Ability to travel within the Chicago region.
