Description
Major Responsibilities:
- Works collaboratively with intervention specialists, tutors, counselors, the school psychologist, teachers, and personnel from area public school districts to meet the needs of identified students and ensure effective implementation of remedial and enrichment programming.
- Attends special education meetings for students identified under IDEA, including planning meetings, ETR meetings, and IEP meetings, when required during the assignment period.
- Provides intervention services to identified Jon Peterson Scholarship students, monitors progress toward IEP goals, and reports progress updates in accordance with Ohio Department of Education guidelines.
- Uses empirically supported interventions and best practices in special education service delivery to support student learning needs.
- Uses grades, statewide testing data (PSAT/ACT/SAT), psychoeducational evaluation results, and parent/student/teacher input to develop targeted intervention supports and make sound educational decisions.
- Manages the assigned caseload by monitoring academic performance, collaborating with faculty and staff, and communicating with students and parents to ensure implementation of accommodations and intervention services.
- Provides quarterly updates to parents for all students on the assigned caseload.
- Collaborates with the school psychologist, students, and parents in the development and implementation of Academic Accommodation Plans.
- Participates in Student Support Services Department meetings, faculty/staff meetings, and intervention specialist team meetings as scheduled during the assignment.
- Applies for and coordinates accommodations for statewide assessments, ACT, and College Board testing.
- Accommodates a flexible work schedule within allotted hours to meet student needs and submits time sheets and weekly schedules to the Director of Student Support Services.
- Maintains accurate student attendance, service logs, and work records.
- Reviews, implements, and completes lesson plans left by the Intervention Specialist; develops supplemental plans when necessary to ensure continuity of instruction and intervention services.
- Completes additional assignments, duties, and responsibilities as directed by the Director of Student Support Services.
Requirements
Position Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or special education field required.
- Master’s degree in education or special education field preferred.
Certification:
• Valid certification through the Ohio Department of Education required.
Work Experience:
- Minimum 2 years as an intervention specialist in a high school setting required.
- Knowledge of current best practices in special education service delivery.
- Expertise in and focus in building independent learners.
Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to work well with various constituencies, including faculty, staff, students and parents.
- Ability and openness to take direction.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to administer and interpret achievement assessments a plus.
Qualities:
- Ability to periodically work extended days, evenings and weekends as needed.

Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a school setting, which involves interaction with students, staff, and parents.
- Regular activities include prolonged periods of walking, sitting, standing, talking, listening, and engaging in face-to-face and phone communication.
- Requires frequent reading, writing, and use of fine motor skills for handling office tasks such as managing correspondence, completing forms, filing documents, faxing, copying, and typing.
- Visual focus and attention to detail are essential for reviewing documents, data entry, and operating office equipment.
- Frequent use of computers and telephones is required throughout the day.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting (typically up to 20 pounds).
- Requires ability to maintain professionalism in a fast-paced setting with multiple deadlines and simultaneous activities.
- Work may include extended days, evenings, and weekends.
