Housing Specialist

ROCKBRIDGE AREA COMMUNITY SERVICES RACS is currently seeking a motivated, qualified individual to work in our coverage area of Rockbridge and Bath County, and the Cities of Lexington and Buena Vista. RACS will provide training, supervision, and education opportunities specific to the position.

Position Overview:

The Housing Specialist provides critical housing stabilization services to individuals affected by serious mental illness. Responsibilities include service coordination, client screening and assessment, and administration of rental assistance. Success in this role depends on the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with landlords, property managers, and housing assistance providers.

This position requires strong interpersonal and engagement skills to interact with clients, colleagues, and community partners. Work is conducted both in an office setting and in the field, including travel to clients' homes and various community locations.

The Housing Specialist reports to the Adult Community-Based Services Manager and performs duties with limited supervision, exercising sound judgment, initiative, and discretion in handling confidential information in accordance with agency policy and HIPAA regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in human services field preferred
  • One year of experience with housing programs preferred
  • Relevant experience working with individuals who have experienced symptoms of a serious mental illness or co-occurring disorder
  • Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record in accordance with RACS policies are required
