Housing Behavioral Health Specialist

Summary

The Housing Behavioral Health Specialist provides clinical and behavioral health support to youth and young adults residing in the Transitional Living Program. This position conducts clinical assessments, provides individual and group therapeutic interventions, facilitates conflict resolution and restorative practices, and develops individualized treatment and support strategies addressing interpersonal relationships, emotional regulation, communication, and independent living skills.

The Housing Behavioral Health Specialist collaborates with case managers, behavioral health providers, and program staff to assess resident needs, develop and implement individualized interventions, monitor progress, and address barriers to housing stability. The position utilizes trauma-informed, strengths-based, and evidence-informed practices to promote emotional well-being, healthy relationships, and successful housing retention.

Essential Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment & Treatment Planning

• Conduct clinical and social assessments related to interpersonal functioning, emotional well-being, conflict, and housing stability for youth in room mating situations.
• Identify behavioral health needs, risk factors, strengths, and barriers affecting successful shared living. 
• Develop individualized interventions to be incorporated into individualized treatment plans based on identified needs. 
• Establish measurable goals and monitor resident progress toward treatment and housing-stability objectives. 
• Reassess resident needs and modify interventions as clinically appropriate. 

Individual & Group Clinical Services

• Provide individual and group therapeutic interventions addressing emotional regulation, communication, conflict resolution, healthy relationships, coping skills, and independent living. 
• Facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational groups focused on relationship development, emotional wellness, and community living. 
• Utilize trauma-informed, strengths-based, and evidence-informed clinical practices. 
• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support when clinically indicated. 
• Refer residents for additional behavioral health services when needs exceed the scope of the position. 

Conflict Resolution & Restorative Intervention

• Facilitate structured mediation and restorative interventions to address interpersonal conflict and promote healthy relationship patterns. 
• Assess the underlying behavioral and emotional factors contributing to roommate conflict. 
• Develop individualized clinical interventions to address recurring interpersonal or behavioral concerns. 
• Support residents in developing communication, boundary-setting, emotional regulation, and problem-solving skills. 
• Assess safety concerns and follow agency protocols for crisis response, mandated reporting, and escalation. 

Clinical Documentation & Care Coordination

• Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation, including assessments, roommate agreements, progress notes, interventions, referrals, and outcomes. 
• Participate in case conferences and multidisciplinary treatment team meetings. 
• Collaborate with behavioral health providers, case managers, housing staff, and other service providers to coordinate care. 
• Monitor resident progress and communicate clinically relevant changes to appropriate members of the treatment team. 
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable clinical, ethical, regulatory, and agency requirements. 

Program Development & Quality Improvement

• Develop and facilitate clinical and educational programming related to healthy relationships, emotional wellness, conflict resolution, and independent living. 
• Track clinical and program outcomes related to resident functioning, conflict resolution, and housing retention. 
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to program evaluation. 
• Provide consultation and education to program staff regarding behavioral health and interpersonal concerns, within the scope of professional credentials.

Additional Duties

• Perform other duties related to program operations as assigned by supervision.

Requirements

Essential Competencies

• Ability to develop and implement individualized treatment interventions 
• Strong therapeutic communication and relationship-building skills

• Strong clinical documentation and case-management skills 
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team 
• Understanding of professional ethics, confidentiality, and appropriate clinical boundaries 
• Ability to work independently while exercising appropriate clinical judgment

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related clinical discipline. 
• Current Ohio clinical license such as LSW, LPC, or other applicable independent clinical credential, as required by the scope of services provided. 
• Minimum of 2 years of experience providing behavioral health services to adolescents, young adults, or individuals experiencing housing instability preferred. 
• Experience providing individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, clinical assessment, and treatment planning preferred. 
• Experience utilizing trauma-informed and evidence-informed practices. 
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
• Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical documentation.
