Position Summary

The HOPE Emancipation Project Student Success Coach will be a pivotal mentor and guide for students, offering comprehensive support, coaching, and advising as they navigate both their academic and personal journeys. In this role, you will work closely with students to establish meaningful goals, develop strategic plans, and provide the essential resources and encouragement needed to help them thrive, both in the classroom and beyond. Whether assisting with course selection, connecting them to vital resources, or simply offering a compassionate listening ear, you will stand by their side, ensuring they have the tools and confidence to succeed.

As the primary advocate for student success, you will help students overcome obstacles and celebrate achievements, preparing them for post-graduation careers and independent living. You will play a critical role in fostering self-sufficiency, promoting retention, and driving academic achievement while ensuring that students’ holistic needs—academic, personal, and professional—are met. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Student Support and Coaching:

• Provide one-on-one coaching and guidance to program students in all aspects of college life, including entry, assimilation, retention, and graduation.
• Conduct regular assessments to monitor student progress and ensure academic, personal, and professional development.
• Promote student success by coaching students on strategies to overcome personal and academic challenges.
• Assist students with securing basic needs, including housing, food, and health resources, while fostering independence and self-sufficiency.
• Contributing to the overall success of the Emancipation Program and its students.

Career and Post-Graduation Preparation:

• Provide individualized coaching and support for students preparing to transition from college to careers or independent living.
• Offer career counseling, job search guidance, and professional development opportunities to ensure students are prepared for life after graduation.

Relationship Building and Resource Connection:

• Establish and maintain strong working relationships with internal departments and external agencies to connect students with necessary services and resources.
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, and community organizations to develop support systems for students facing personal or academic challenges.
• Follow up with students to ensure access to needed services and track their progress.

Crisis Management:

• Serve as the 24-hour on-call contact for crisis counseling and intervention, addressing immediate student needs and providing support in emergencies.

Event Planning and Program Coordination:

• Plan, organize, and oversee a range of student-focused activities, including campus visits, orientation sessions, group meetings, summer camps, and housing arrangements.
• Coordinate evening and weekend programming as needed to support students’ social, personal, and academic growth.

Student Assessment and Program Improvement:

• Assess student needs, experiences, and independent living skills to provide tailored support.
• Collect and analyze data related to student progress and program effectiveness, making recommendations for continuous improvement of program operations.

Reporting and Documentation:

• Prepare, maintain, and analyze statistical reports, documenting student progress and program outcomes.
• Use data to drive program enhancements and inform decision-making processes.

Other Duties:

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education/ Experience

What you will need to be successful!

Required experience

• Bachelor's degree in counseling, education, social work, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Experience working with underrepresented, first-generation, or at-risk student populations.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and crisis management skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, and external agencies.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and on-call hours as needed.
• One year's relevant experience. 
• Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Licensure as a Master-level Social Worker (LMSW) in the State of North Carolina or Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology, College Student Personnel, or relevant field.
