Be the Bridge to a Brighter Future: Foster Care Specialist

Are you a social worker who believes that every child deserves a safe, loving home and every family deserves a chance to heal? Spectrum Child & Family Services is looking for a passionate, dedicated Foster Care Specialist to join our Flint team.

We aren't just looking for someone to manage cases; we are looking for a tireless advocate who will protect, treat, and empower the families we serve. If you have a heart for child welfare and the grit to navigate complex systems to get results, we want to meet you.

Why This Role Matters

As a Foster Care Specialist, you are the heartbeat of our mission. You will provide intensive, family-centered casework to birth parents, foster parents, and children as they navigate the journey toward reunification or permanent placement. You will share your unique strengths with families who have experienced trauma, helping them grow and providing you with the opportunity for your own professional development.

What You’ll Do (The Impact)

  • Champion Child Safety: You will monitor and ensure the well-being of every child on your caseload, responding to family crises whenever they arise to maintain safety and stability.
  • Empower Families: You won’t just observe; you will educate and model essential skills in parenting, communication, and household management to strengthen overall family functioning.
  • Be the Voice in Court: You will represent our agency at court hearings, providing expert testimony and recommendations to ensure the legal system works in the best interest of the child.
  • Coordinate the "Village": From making referrals for specialized treatment to collaborating with licensing and clinical staff, you will be the primary navigator for a family's success.
  • Provide Constant Support: Our families need us most when things are difficult. You will participate in a 24/7 crisis response system, ensuring birth and foster families are never alone during their toughest moments.

Who You Are

  • Educated & Qualified: You hold a bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related human services field.
  • Experienced (Preferred): You ideally have at least one year of experience working with families and strong assessment skills.
  • Skilled & Knowledgeable: You understand child welfare laws and believe in a strength-based, solution-focused approach to treatment.
  • Mobile & Ready: You have a valid Michigan Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and the required vehicle insurance to meet families where they are.
