The ideal candidate for this role has served as a CPS or In-Home Services Supervisor in a Virginia local DSS, bringing strong, hands-on mastery of these programs.

 What You'll Do

  • Manage the work of the division:

    • CPS & APS hotlines, services intake, Child Protective Services, and Prevention (In-Home Services and Family Support).

    • Review monthly reports on staff, work assignments and program mandates, provide data analysis to identify trends & target areas for improvement. 

    • Prepare monthly statistics for performance measures.

    • Prepare records for release in compliance with federal & state guidelines

    • Maintain & purge records for the Department

  • Coordinate audits & quality assurance reviews by state and other entities, including internal case reviews

  • Program Planning:

    • Review appeals & state QA results looking for trends and training needs. 

    • Evaluate staffing and organizational needs & makes recommendations. 

    • Develop performance standards and prepare corrective action plans as needed. 

    • Maintain & update the divisions’ SOP.

    • Develop implementation plans for new policies & procedures impacting service programs.

  • Manage staff & supervisors:

    • Recommend hiring, transfer, promotion, and termination of personnel 

    • Onboarding & orientation for new hires

    • Train & ensure the development of family services supervisors and staff

  • Serve on the Department’s executive & leadership teams.

    • Leads the Department in the development & implementation of strategic plans.

    • Promotes a culture of professionalism, professional development, and continuous learning & improvement. 

    • Serves on boards, task forces, committees & other organizations related to the work of the Department and the County. Examples include Systems of Care, MDT, FAPT, Trauma-Informed Leadership Team, Central Region Child Welfare Supervisors, Policy Advisory Committee, best practice court team and other opportunities locally, regionally and across the state.

  • Plan & host division meetings & trainings

  • Services in a leadership role for emergency shelter teams and disaster planning

  • Provides supervisory coverage for child welfare on-call

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Four (4) year baccalaureate degree in a relevant human services field and four (4) years of relevant program experience, including one (1) year in a supervisor role OR any equivalent combination of four (4) year human services baccalaureate degree and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
