The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Family Navigator position. We seek an organized, detail-oriented person to serve as a Family Navigator responsible for care coordination, resource navigation, and ongoing follow-up for research participants and their families/caregivers. The Family Navigator must be fluent in both Spanish and English. They will work with research participants and their families/caregivers at Columbia University, in collaboration with the Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene and the NewYork-Presbyterian Center for Autism and the Developing Brain (CADB). They will act as a liaison between research participants, researchers, healthcare providers, and community service organizations. The primary responsibility of the Family Navigator will be to connect participants and their families/caregivers with appropriate medical, behavioral, vocational, educational, and community-based resources while supporting participant engagement and retention throughout the research process.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates care coordination across healthcare, behavioral health, vocational, educational, and community-based service providers, and provides follow-up support for research participants and their families/caregivers.
  • Assists with navigating healthcare systems, insurance, benefits, and community resources, and helps connect participants with appropriate services.
  • Works closely with Spanish- and English-speaking participants and their families/caregivers to identify needs, reduce barriers to accessing services, and promote continuity of care and support throughout their participation in research.
  • Partners with community organizations, healthcare providers, advocacy groups, and social service agencies to build relationships and facilitate referrals to appropriate medical, behavioral, educational, vocational, and community resources.
  • Maintains and expands a comprehensive resource database by conducting outreach to community organizations and service providers through phone calls, virtual meetings, and in-person visits to identify new resources available to participants.
  • Serves as a representative of the research program at community outreach events, educational programs, and stakeholder engagement activities.Maintains accurate, HIPAA-compliant records and protects the confidentiality of participant information.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, public health, human services, education, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least (1) year of relevant experience in care coordination, case management, patient navigation, social services, clinical research, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak, read, and write fluently in Spanish
