The Central Missouri Foster Care & Adoption Association is a not-for-profit agency that educates, supports, and advocates for foster, adoptive, & kinship children, youth, & families in central Missouri by offering services & partnering with community & governmental agencies to develop healthy & self-sufficient individuals & families.

Currently, we are assisting over 640 foster families, over 1400 foster children, over 400 adopted children in our service area. Our goal is to be a support to the families, children and youth in this area, and we work tirelessly to provide much needed services to them.

Position Summary

The Family Development Program has three major components: intake, assessing, and training. We offer support and services to families interested in fostering/adopting, and to foster, adoptive, and kinship families. All team members will be trained in each category, however hired with a specific focus in training or assessing. The purpose of this role is to support, guide, educate, and prepare individuals that are interested in becoming foster, adoptive, kinship, and/or respite caregivers.

As an assessor, the employee conducts a comprehensive home study. It involves multiple interviews in the home of the potential caregiver. Many aspects of the family and home are evaluated, such as: their “why” or motivation for becoming a licensed caregiver, the family history and dynamics, support systems, safe and suitable environment, and parenting style and skills. There is also in-depth discussion regarding expectations, cultural understanding, and grief and loss.
