Summary of Position:  

The Family-Based Mental Health Therapist provides intensive, community-based mental health services to children and adolescents who are at risk of out-of-home placement due to emotional, behavioral, or psychiatric challenges. Working as part of a two-person therapy team, the therapist delivers time-limited, family-focused treatment designed to stabilize family functioning, strengthen support systems, and prevent hospitalization or residential placement.

 

  • Provide intensive, family-centered mental health treatment to children and adolescents who are at risk of hospitalization, residential treatment, or out-of-home placement.

 

 

  • Work collaboratively as part of a co-therapy team to deliver comprehensive therapeutic services and support.

 

 

  • Conduct individual, family, parent-child, sibling, and caregiver therapy sessions in home, school, and community settings.

 

 

  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on clinical assessments and family needs.

 

 

  • Provide case management services and coordinate care with schools, healthcare providers, and community agencies.

 

 

  • Deliver crisis intervention and support families in managing behavioral, emotional, and psychiatric challenges.

 

 

  • Utilize evidence-based and trauma-informed treatment approaches to improve family functioning and child well-being.

 

 

  • Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation, treatment plans, and progress notes.

 

 

  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing professional development activities.

 

 

  • Work a flexible schedule that may include 2-3 evenings per week and on-call crisis response as needed

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in counseling, therapy, psychology, social work, sociology, or related field of study positions available.
  • Experience in therapy, children services, or in a mental health setting. 
  • Two years of experience or full-time equivalent paid experience is required.
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, and families in behavioral health, social services, or related settings.
  • Experience providing individual, family, or group therapy.
  • Knowledge of family systems theory, child development, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based treatment practices
  • Experience conducting crisis assessments and implementing safety plans
  • Familiarity with community resources, case management, and care coordination
  • Strong interpersonal, engagement, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Experience using an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system is a plus. 
  • Position requires reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and current auto insurance coverage.
  • Bilingual (Spanish Speaking) is a plus.
  • Some non-traditional hours including evenings may be required.
