The Family Advocate is responsible for the communication and follow-up of recommendations identified in the Child Protection Center multidisciplinary team staffing regarding safety planning, medical issues, mental health treatment and family support services for suspected victims of child or dependent adult abuse and their families. The Family Advocate serves as the link between the Child Protection Center and the family following the initial appointment and assists with the coordination of care for services in their home community.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support to supportive caregivers/guardians during the appointment.
  • Provides ongoing support through phone calls and service referrals.
  • Creates and describes post-appointment recommendations to families.
  • Identifies services in the family’s home community and makes referrals as necessary.
  • Documents interactions with families in Epic and NCAtrak.
  • Actively participate in Case Review meetings, Child Protection Center staff meetings, and other training/collaboration opportunities.
  • Serves on community committees and provides community training about child abuse prevention and CPC services.
  • Obtains and documents case outcomes from multi-disciplinary team members.
  • Collaborates with service providers in the Service Area to make informed referrals for families.
  • Maintains a directory of services throughout the service area that meet the criteria of the Standards for Accreditation, especially focused on evidence-based mental health services.
  • Obtains and documents patient, caregiver and/or multidisciplinary team feedback regarding Child Protection Center services.
  • Obtains referral information from multi-disciplinary team members and enters into appropriate documentation.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences or a related field (social work, family services, nursing, education, psychology, criminology, etc.).

Experience:

  • Minimum of two years of experience working in a human service field.
  • Experience working in the field of child abuse prevention, community collaboration, victim advocacy and/or crisis intervention preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must possess and maintain education certification as a victim support advocate within one year from date of hire. Certified victim advocate preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
