Description

Build the Program Behind the Care

At Transitions Hospice, volunteers aren't a nice-to-have — they're a cornerstone of the care we deliver. They sit with patients, honor veterans, support grieving families, and show up in ways that no clinical role can replicate.

We're looking for an enterprise-minded leader to own and elevate our volunteer program across four states — building the systems, standards, and accountability structures that allow local teams to thrive, while ensuring every branch stays compliant, survey-ready, and mission-aligned.

If you're a builder who loves data as much as people — and wants your work to matter to patients and their families — this is your role.

What You'll Do

As Director of Volunteer Services, you'll own the enterprise volunteer operating model from end to end — setting the standards, driving the metrics, and holding the organization accountable for meeting Medicare's 5% volunteer hour requirement across all locations. Your day-to-day includes:

  • Owning full compliance with 42 CFR § 418.78 and all state volunteer program regulations across every licensed location
  • Building and maintaining a comprehensive performance dashboard tracking volunteer utilization, recruitment pipeline, retention, and documentation compliance
  • Running monthly enterprise performance reviews across all branches — identifying outliers and driving corrective action to closure
  • Leading a recurring branch audit cadence and owning the organization's standing survey readiness process
  • Serving as the primary champion for the We Honor Veterans (WHV) program — overseeing veteran-specific training, pinning ceremonies, and community partnerships
  • Indirectly supervising volunteer coordinators across IL, IN, MI, and OH, providing coaching, performance management, and professional development
  • Developing training curricula and documentation standards for volunteers and coordinators, in collaboration with the Clinical Education team
  • Building strategic partnerships with faith communities, universities, veteran service organizations, and civic groups
  • Presenting program performance reports to senior leadership, quality teams, and compliance committees

Benefits We Offer

  • Competitive Pay
  • Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid Time Off
  • Company provided equipment
  • Travel Reimbursement for multi-site responsibilities

Requirements

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Healthcare Administration, Nonprofit Management, Psychology, or a related field — Master's preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in hospice or a related healthcare setting
  • 2+ years in volunteer management or coordination
  • Multi-site or multi-state program management experience
  • Demonstrated experience building or redesigning enterprise-level volunteer programs — not solely maintaining existing ones
  • Experience designing dashboards, audit systems, and corrective action processes at an enterprise scale
  • Comfort presenting data, managing KPIs, and reporting program performance to senior leadership
