The Director of Admissions provides strategic and operational leadership for Ohio’s Hospice referral, intake, and admissions functions. This position ensures that the mission of Ohio’s Hospice is upheld throughout the process.Through direct report and regional team leaders, the Director ensures timely, compassionate, clinically appropriate, and efficient access to hospice services while supporting organizational growth, regulatory compliance, fiscal responsibility, and an exceptional patient and family experience.The Director oversees the continuum from initial referral through admission and transition to the care team, optimizing response times, workflows, staffing, communication, and coordination across the organization.The Director collaborates with clinical leadership, physicians, care coordination, business development, referral partners, Information Technology, Business Intelligence, and other departments to strengthen referral relationships, improve access to care, support census growth, and continuously enhance the referral and admission experience.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration or a related field preferred, with a minimum of five years of healthcare management, leadership, admissions, referrals, or related experience preferred.
• Experience in hospice, home health, hospital, post-acute care, or another healthcare setting preferred.
• RN or Social Work licensure preferred, but not required.
• Demonstrated experience leading teams, managing healthcare operations, and improving performance through data and outcomes.
• Experience with referrals, admissions, patient access, care coordination, or related healthcare functions preferred.
• Knowledge of hospice philosophy and the referral and admission process preferred.
• Strong relationship-building, communication, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with clinical professionals, referral partners, patients, families, and organizational leaders.
• Proficient computer skills, including electronic health records, documentation, data analysis, and organizational systems.
• Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
• Automobile insurance meeting Ohio’s Hospice minimum coverage requirements.
• Ability to travel as needed to support operations, referral relationships, and service areas.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide strategic and operational leadership for Admissions & Referrals across Ohio’s Hospice service areas, ensuring effective staffing, workflows, coverage, productivity, performance, and accountability.
• Recruit, lead, coach, develop, and retain staff and regional leaders while fostering a culture of compassion, teamwork, responsiveness, accountability, and service excellence.
• Ensure timely, efficient, patient-centered referral and admission processes and seamless transitions to the hospice care team.
• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with hospitals, health systems, post-acute providers, physicians, home health agencies, and other referral partners.
• Partner with Business Development and Marketing to identify referral trends, growth opportunities, barriers, emerging markets, and community education needs.
• Analyze referral, admission, financial, productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction data to establish performance measures, identify opportunities, optimize resources, and support sustainable growth.
• Ensure referral and admission practices comply with applicable regulatory, payer, accreditation, HIPAA, and organizational requirements and maintain appropriate documentation and risk controls.
• Partner with clinical, quality, compliance, revenue cycle, finance, technology, business intelligence, and other leaders to address operational and regulatory risks and drive continuous improvement.
• Leverage technology, reporting, dashboards, EMR functionality, and data systems to improve workflow, communication, accountability, and patient access.
• Participate in organizational strategy and cross-functional initiatives related to access to care, service expansion, market development, staffing, quality, and organizational growth.
