Counselor (Youth Intervention Services Program)

Empower Youth. Strengthen Families. Change Lives.

Are you passionate about helping young people overcome challenges and reach their full potential? Join Safe Children Coalition’s Prevention and Diversion team as a Youth Intervention Services (YIS) Counselor and make a meaningful impact in the lives of youth and families in our community.

The YIS Counselor provides individualized support to youth ages 10–17 who are experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, school, or family-related challenges. Using evidence-based interventions and a strengths-based approach, this role helps youth build resilience, develop positive coping skills, strengthen relationships, and create pathways toward success.

This is an 11-month position that follows the school-year calendar, offering time off during the summer while allowing you to make a lasting difference throughout the year.

A Day in the Life of a YIS Counselor

No two days are the same. You may meet with youth at school, connect with families in their homes, collaborate with community partners, and develop individualized plans that support positive outcomes. This role provides the opportunity to build meaningful relationships, advocate for youth, and celebrate progress every step of the way.

What You'll Do

  • Provide individual, family, and group counseling to youth experiencing personal, school, social, or behavioral challenges.
  • Complete assessments and develop individualized service plans.
  • Build positive relationships with youth, families, schools, and community partners.
  • Connect families with resources and coordinate supportive services.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and case records.
  • Help youth develop skills that promote healthy decision-making, resilience, and long-term success.
