The Counselor provides personal and career counseling to support student employability, continued enrollment, and successful completion of the Job Corps program. This position provides comprehensive and individualized case management, identifies and addresses barriers to success, and develops individualized career and educational plans. The Counselor builds supportive relationships with students while maintaining strict confidentiality and the integrity of student information.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive and individualized case management to support student progress, retention, and successful completion of the Job Corps program.
Establish supportive and mentoring relationships with students throughout their enrollment.
Provide personal, educational, and career counseling to help students achieve their goals.
Identify, assess, and address barriers that may impact student success.
Develop and regularly update students' Personal Career Development Plans.
Monitor and assess student progress in Academics, Career Technical Training, and Independent Living.
Coordinate on-Center and off-Center services to support student retention and success.
Transport students as needed or required.
Routinely evaluate and document student progress and performance in the case management system.
Maintain strict confidentiality of student information and ensure the integrity of student data.
Follow all integrity guidelines and procedures and ensure there is no manipulation of student data.
Maintain a student caseload that meets or exceeds DOL/Company performance goals.
Mentor, monitor, and model the Career Success Standards as required by the PRH.
Provide effective supervision and management of students by taking appropriate action, positively influencing student behavior, and holding students accountable for their actions.
Contribute to a Center culture where students are treated with care, respect, and professionalism and feel safe and welcomed.
Work collaboratively with staff across all departments to ensure students receive effective supervision and quality services.
Provide timely, accurate, and quality information to DOL/Company when requested.
Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, and contribute meaningfully to team efforts.
Identify problems, analyze causes, evaluate appropriate solutions, and follow up to ensure issues are resolved.
Maintain professional attendance, accountability, productivity, and work performance standards.
Plan, prioritize, and organize assignments to meet established goals and deadlines.
Maintain and develop the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively perform job responsibilities.
Accept direction and supervision from the Center Director, Center Duty Officer, and/or Shift Manager, including temporary assignments to perform responsibilities within other departments or positions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Required:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, including at least 15 semester hours of Social Services-related coursework.
Minimum of one year of experience in counseling or a related field.
Valid in-State Driver's License.
Must meet Company insurability requirements.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and protect sensitive student information.
Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population and multidisciplinary staff.
Preferred:
Previous Job Corps experience.
Experience working in a youth development, education, workforce development, counseling, or other related program.
Experience providing case management or career counseling services.
